Thanks Emma!! Great exterior shots. I like that that you posted stuff I had not seen before too. When did you go there? Was it recently. I was in Memphis last week and drove by Sears a bunch of times but I did not have time to go in. Maybe the next trip. I would be interested in what part of the building all the adding machine were in. I spent about 8 hours in there and never saw those. But it IS a huge building! | | | Everyone, I really appreciate the help. I've never belonged to a website before (other than myspace) and I'll need some guidance. Any suggestions you have on technical matters, postings, or general UER ettiquette are warmly welcomed. Thanks, Adventure Squad

| | | Opheliaism, I was last in there about a year ago, and would like to go in again. Unfortunately there is a lot of work being done in there right now (I don't know what they're planning) and they have dismantled the fire escape that was our entry point. If anyone wants to try it know this: It can't be done during the day. Workmen are in there seven days a week. We had to ninja-escape both times we tried the Sears Building during the day. We found the Adding Machines on our first trip inside. I can't remember precisely where they were, except that they were up in the tower, in some dead space between floors. They Department of Defense drums--which none of us had the courage to open--were in a similar area. Another word of caution to anyone who has never been in there: It's populated after dark. On that same first trip we saw some guy in a ski-mask dismantling one of the big roof-top AC arrays. I guess he wanted the copper coils. The police came later. We aren't sure if it was for us, or him, or something else altogether. But all the times the authorities have shown up they've entered through one of the big loading-dock doors on the south side of the building. So if you're ever in there and hear a big creaking-grinding-squeeking noise, head down and north. -Adventure Squad [last edit 3/24/2006 10:29 PM by adventure squad - edited 1 times]

| | | WOW!! I grew up in Memphis and quite literally spent countless hours running wild in the Sears Crosstown building as a child. OMIGOD!! We would park in the garage which was detached. Ride the elevator to the basement and take the tunnel down and over to the basement store level...where the pets, toys, sporting goods, and fresh popcorn and ICEE's were. From there, you'd take the escalator up to the ground level and follow the floor left through womens clothes, past the "old" front door on Watkins, and left again through the fabrics and into the furniture department...which is where my parents usually found my sister and I, lounging and watching TV. When I saw the pictures, I almost cried. I could smell the popcorn.... Anyway, keep up the good work. If anyone would like to do the same in Chicago (where I live now) or Memphis (I know all the old empty and abandoned spots!), please let me know. Barry (773)203-4721

| | | I've explored this building and heres the lowdown: [Removed entrance information-Em] Once inside, watch out for homeless homeys. That place is inhabited, especially at night. See, during the day they go out and gather, but at night they return into the homeless palace and reside on the first floor. I did not go down there, so I can't say what goes on down there. Probably all kinds of homeless parties. Anyway, the top floors house a three story water tower as well as the ladder to the roof. Bring a camera kids, this place only rivals the sterick building as far as the view goes. [last edit 4/16/2006 1:27 PM by Emma Peel - edited 1 times]
