| Gas Fumes Make You Happy entry by Maggie 5/7/2005 1:49 PM
| So I ended up driving down to Perry Sound on Friday with two other members from the Meetup UE group to scout the ghost town in that locale for the upcoming July overnight trip. I mostly wanted to go down to see if it was worth missing three days of work for. In conclusion...well I'm not all that sure. On the down side, the ghost town is more just crumbled old stone ruins (a small handful of them too) so there's really not much to see UE-wise. On the plus side, the area is rather lovely (lakesides and woods, good ol' camping ground) and would be wicked fun to run around in with flashlights at night. Not to mention the camping ground we may end up staying in is made up of Native-American style tepee's with fires in the center. Anyways, back to the trip itself. Took a Go-Train downtown to meet with the Meetup Organizer at her house and then took her car down to Perry Sound (roughly a 2.5 hour drive). At some point I passed out from Gravol in the back seat, though I remember we had to pull over to get the hood of her car fixed (I'm blurry on the details). So we arrive in Perry Sound and explored the area a bit, looking over the ruins and such. Sadly, not much to see IMHO. At least not if you are looking for something a bit more complete to explore. But if you like old architecture, than I suppose it would do. We tried to explore a bit further down the way of the ruins, but the swamp was no-go with her car and we could only walk so far. So we get back to the car with intent on going on to the next supposed ghost-town in the area, only to realize that half the gas in the tank has somehow vanished o_O Ended up being that there was a leak at the bottom of the car, and after taking it for a quick look-at in a nearby auto repair, we pretty much decided we would be screwed if we tried to go on. So we drove home on the highway, alternating between baking alive in the car with the windows closed or inhaling the gas fumes with the windows open. Got back feeling dizzy and sick XP Wheeee, fun.
