| | | All kinds of road biking on my trusty Trek 520. The typical day sees me covering 10-20 kms of wretched suburban asphalt and concrete just getting to work and back and getting the errands done. On my day off I'll bomb into town along the canal path (50 kms return) or head off-island for some peaceful quiet touring and stress-reducing scenery (80 or 100 kms). 2 or three times per summer I'll take a week off and go get lost in the woods or tool up and down the Saint Lawrence with all my camping gear strapped on the back of my bike. Between finding groceries/beer, finding a place to crash, making camp, breaking camp, fixing meals, quaffing beers, checking out the scenery, yakking up the locals, and exploring whatever interesting thing I happen upon, somehow I manage to cover 100 kms or so per day. Each summer I try to squeeze in a 'round Lac Saint Louis' ride (130 kms) and/or a 'tool on home from my friend's VT cottage' ride (160 kms). Those are the best days of my summers. Then inevitably, winter comes, and I have to put up with doing 0 kms per day for months on end [sighs]. Such is the life of the eastern Canadian bicyclist.
