BC Mines

After a long hiatus from UER, I figured it was time to start doing something I enjoy again. So a friend and I took a road trip from Edmonton through BC, looking for what we could find. We struck out a couple places (Kamloops/Tranquille and Hedley/Mascot), but found a couple *gold mines*.

It looks like some of the air handling equipment in that mine have been installed recently.

Nice sets! I haven't done too many mines so it's always cool to see the ones others post.

The air handling equipment was definitely installed recently. From what I can gather, the mine was originally decommissioned in the 80s, and then a group went back in during 2017/2018ish. They have definitely once again abandoned the mine, but it was cool to see the original infrastructure from the 80s combined with the newer infrastructure.

Where did you find the entrance to the mine?

Hedley was on my list when I did a trip out to BC/Yukon a couple of years ago, but I ran out of time to get into BC much. I know it had become a tourist thing, is that no longer true?

It had become a tourist thing, but was shut down in 2017, so we figured it may be worth it. Speaking with a local, and it sounds like they had just been up there doing Reno's that week with the intention of it re-opening. So we decided to move on.

Damn. I had the same hopes for it! I was out there in 2018 and had noticed it had closed the year prior.

Looks like a cool trip, I always love seeing mines.

I've been wanting to have a look at that mine around Hope for quite a while now but I thought the access road was blocked since there's work being done there now. What was it like when you were there?

The access road was gated, but unlocked. Definitely no work going on anymore. Everything was abandoned, looks like the snow load collapsed their job shack roof. We were able to drive to the top in a minivan (AWD, and had to be very careful). Definitely worth the trip if your in the area.

That's promising news! I've been planning to try hiking past the gate for a while now, looks like I probably won't need to anymore. I'll try getting up there in the next week or two.

This is fantastic news. One of my all time favorite places to explore, broke my heart when the mine was reactivated. I better get back in there sooner than later before it's buried under snow.
