| | | How many of you occasionally get a kick out either from the distance photographing bum camps or enjoy yourself exploring abandoned camps. I personally find myself walking over the remnants of them probably at least once a month if not once a week. Mostly I pass them when exploring and on the way to the actual area I had intentioned to explore. I love all the colors of all the garbage. I also like taking pictures of all the heroin needles/caps. I also enjoy seeing creative camps in creative places. Like this one time I saw a make shift tree house that probably for at least one day before someone reported it had a camp. In the city I am from/live near there are countless people living in their boats along the river. I want to see pictures that you guys have taken of camps. Whether active or abandoned I think they are all interesting to look at. PS watch out for heroin needles, human feces, and other hazards. It's best to ask if a camp is active and there are inhabitants nearby for permission to take a picture of their forts they built. It's safest to just stick to abandoned ones; however often it's hard to tell. Post your pictures of bum camps here. . You may also feel free to post pictures of your own make shift sleeping arrangements you've made while sleeping in abandoned buildings...etc. 1. 2. 3. 4. 5.

| | | I live down in a desert valley and the water that comes from the mountains surrounding me all goes through a couple of main creeks instead of storm drains. One day I came across this giant concrete structure inside one of those main creeks. About 150 feet away from that on the same side of the creek was what looked to be a homemade bed for someone. I knew it was a bed because someone had gone through a lot of time and effort to make it as comfortable yet functional as possible. I also knew that no one had been there in ages, because of all the spiders and other creepy shit all over it. and next to the bed was a staff with a rope ball stuck onto the end of it. Near the concrete structure were the remanints of beer bottles, bullet shells, and other stuff that made me think someone had some serious parties out there. I should also note that this structure was about a half a mile away from a bridge on a central road, I think it might be the forgotten construction of the first bridge until the developers moved the build site a half a mile in the other direction possibly because of road changes. In any case, an interesting discovery. 1. (The holes inside the concrete are actually bullet holes, somebody shot that shit up) 2. (if you look were the stones are you can see a homemade concrete base) 3. (and to provide extra support, the builder of this actually incorporated a palo verde tree into the main construction)

| | | And yeah, I get what you guys are trying to say. But if you really think about it, no one whos homeless stays very long for any duration of time anywhere. (classification of the name homeless) and if I happened to find an old or freshly abandoned homeless camp then its basically the same as an old or freshly abandoned home. and honestly, if something like a camp is active, as long as you get the permission of the person who built it and lives in it, I see no problem there. HELL, if I built and was living in something like that and made it my special place to hang out I would be fucking proud to have a random stranger walk up to me and ask to take a picture of MY home for the usage of sharing it on a photography site to be admired by its users. Guys, Don't shame the homeless : ) Also, if someone does take offense to me taking a picture I would just respect what they say and move on. Its the same as if I tried to take a picture inside an active building and security said "NO, GET THE HELL OUT OF HERE", I would probably listen to them and get the hell out.

Just playing devil's advocate here. You might not see it the same way if you've been a victim of multiple car prowls, bicycle thefts, and package thefts and you see a bunch ripped part bikes, neighbors' packages, dumped clothes and empty luggage bags that have been stolen from parked cars and ditched after they've taken anything they can turn to cash.
| Most people don't realize how close they are to being homeless if illness and bad times happen. Some are Vets and have issues from combat, some of these can lay you out before you have a chance to run your mouth. Some don't steal or do drugs, but they have a problem of people trying to steal their pension money and belongings. I rarely do houses for good reasons and only when they're obviously abandoned. I strongly suggest for your own safety you avoid places where people live. Otherwise it's a lick on you... always room in the hurt locker for one more.
| Just when I thought I was out... they pulled me back in. |

Just playing devil's advocate, but this might sound like a good idea until you've actually known a yuppie. I happen to have a pair of yuppies as upstairs neighbors, and their living room is the epicenter of inconsiderate noise. For example, on New Years Eve, they had a party that involved hooting AND hollering while I was trying to sleep. Things were dropped on the floor, and really shitty early 2000's rap was blasted by white people. The woman upstairs always has her mouth open and noise is always coming out. They slam doors and run down the stairs while talking on their phones. They have brief sex on their very loud bed. Both of them have cars and park them in the lot, even though we're all told only to park one car there. They clearly have entitlement issues. Pretty typical. But, I would argue, the fact that they're typical makes them repulsively boring. Stay out of that living room. You might facepalm yourself to death!
