What are your favourite UE inspired films?

I recently re-watched one of my favourite dystopian films Stalker by Andrei Tarkovsky which is filled with poetic imagery of ruin and decay. And thought that it would be interesting to hear what films you would recommend that have similar Urban Exploration content. Please add a www.imdb.com link if possible. Turn out the lights and dig into the popcorn ........

Andrei Tarkovsky - Stalker (1979)
The whole film but especially the ZONE is so evocative of UE abandoned spaces.
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0079944/

Carol Reed - The Third Man (1949)
The chase scenes in the sewers of Vienna are awesome.
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0041959/

Fritz Lang - Metropolis (1927)
The flooding and other scenes of the workers subterranean city.
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0017136/

The Host by Bong Joon-ho, although it's more like the film inspired urban exploration rather than the other way around. Every Christmas we go into the tunnel where it was filmed and hunt for that monster. Thanks to our efforts there have been no Host attacks since 2009.

Thanks for that ... I think I'll watch it tonight And I just realized that he also directed Parasite! Definitely the best movie this year ... loads of subterranean themes.

I actually haven't seen Parasite yet because Korea is one of the worst places in the world to find English-subtitled screenings of Korean films. But from what I've heard about it, I should probably start paying more attention to the basements of some of the residential sites I visit.

Oddly as I wrote the post I wondered what was going on with the Oscars, and just checked again now and Parasite won best picture.

I never thought I'd love a movie about middle aged Russian-speaking men walking through tall grass talking about philosophy for three hours, but my brother insisted it was good and I'm glad I listened.

when you are done with it, it feel like you have read a book.
if you are a true fan of the film, read the book it was inspired by, "Roadside Picnic" by Boris and Arkady Strugatsky.

as for UE movies, gotta go with a weird, unremembered movie from the early 1980's called "Wavelength"

I had in VHS back in the day, letting the VCR go one night taping Cinemax... I managed to find it on youtube some time later and then a torrent.

There's some UE in the new Star Wars movie. They totally gave away the POE, though.

John Eric Dowdle - As above, So below (2014)

Pretty cool movie imo if you don't mind all the classic modern horror tropes.
I'm sure it's been posted about on these forums before but it's about the catophiles in Paris and running from monsters and a gateway to hell.
But the movie starts out as just good ol' splorin'.

Gonna go ahead and mention The Chernobyl Diaries as well. Not an amazing movie, but I appreciated it for how it actually dedicates a surprisingly large chunk of its first half to the cast just walking around exploring.

I haven't seen that and I've always been intrigued with Chernobyl. Pripyat looks awesome sitting there as a giant ghost town.

MOLE MAN

"MOLE MAN follows RON, a 66-year-old autistic man who has spent the last five decades building a 50-room structure in his parents' backyard. Using no nails or mortar, Ron instead creates perfectly balanced structures from scavenged materials he finds in the woods outside his Western Pennsylvania home. When Ron's father passes away, leaving him living alone with his 90-year-old mother, Ron's siblings are left to figure out what's best for Ron - who has never been officially diagnosed with autism - when his mother can no longer care for him. In an effort to find the money to keep Ron in his home, his friends team up in search of a mythical mansion Ron insists lays abandoned in the forest. But will they be able to find it? And, more importantly, does it even exist? This is the story of an extraordinary life, a family, and the beauty of thinking differently."

Pripyat has become a Ukrainian Disneyland... it's very touristy now, especially with the release of the miniseries last spring.

Wow... Just checked out the website and I gotta find a place to watch this! Apparently it's a true story and they are raising money for Ron so that he can continue living at his home? gotta say i'm fascinated.

Definitely The Road. Both the movie and book were great. But also incredibly depressing.
On the subject of movies, in terms of video games, The Last of Us was amazing with the concept of a deadly Fungal virus that kills off most of humanity with buildings filled with green vegetation on buildings everywhere and abandonment galore.
