The only real constant is change

Erasure resonates with me on many levels; evoking the passage of time and the transitory nature of existence.

Below are a selection of photographs I took at the abandoned CFB Rockliffe airbase
in Ottawa, Canada using a modified digital camera to expose only Infra-red. They are meditations on memory and loss. I've come to realize that every military base I've lived on as a child are now either closed, abandoned ghost towns, or have been redeveloped. The act of moving every four years and then making new friends, new school and environments I believe has had a profound influence on who I am as a person and artist .... The only real constant is change.

Peace

Awesome stuff, almost looks like renders. Last two are my favorite, with special mention to 3 and 5 as well.

Hey blackhawk ... I think it is the remains of an Avro Canada CF-100 Canuck twinjet interceptor/fighter. I found it in back of the Canada Aviation and Space Museum which is next to the CFB Rockliffe base. When we were kids back in the early 1960's we used to explore tunnels that ran between, scale and climb the football field size roofs of the museum and then spend hours crawling around the aircraft on display outside. No "helicopter parents" in those days. We'd leave home in the morning to explore all day and then return for supper time, while sometimes getting a ride home by the military police after getting caught stealing gas masks from the surplus depot dump! Photographing what remains of CFB Rockliffe brought back a lot of memories. And so did re-watching Melody Gilbert's film Urban Explorers: Into the Darkness (2007). Which brought me back here to share my photographs.

RAYGUN, yes, that's the warbird!
Cool nose shot. The image quality is good enough
Lol, no one raises hell like boys
Glad to see you're back and you got that bitchin' 15 year star.
So many members from then are MIA.
Looking through old threads you can't help noticing that.
Keep posting and we'll get you jumped in.
The site's much more interesting as an FM.
Cheers

Thanks android eyes. I had an old Nikon D70 converted to expose IR at LifePixel. Back in the days when I used IR film I believe you could read the conversions on red shift marker on your lens?

If your interested below is a link to a video slide show I created of the IR photographs from my book Magnetic Fields. Working to project these large in a dark room with manipulated field recordings and electronic sound. Maybe even outside onto an abandoned building! What type of IR photography are you creating?

Awesome stuff!! Those are some really nice shots.

I was shooting 830nm for a while which is pretty close to some of that b+w work, but have recently been using Kolari Vision's IR Chrome filter which prob sits closer to 615nm, as it let's in more visible light.

Winter obviously means less foliage and less opportunity, but I still shoot bandos in IR whenever I'm able to get out there. Here's a good sample of what I've been doing:

Your soundcloud is great. Love ambient works. I've been wanting to pursue ambient music for quite sometime. But haven't much.

And your website is great.

Amazing IR photo's android_eyez. Especially liked the sharp focus effect and that ominous red light accentuating the details. Unusual exposures ... I like them a lot.

I've also experimented using my IR camera in the winter with interesting results.

Thanks randomesquephoto ... I'd like to hear what you've been composing. Open up a soundcloud page and share your music. It's free and it's a great community of artists for discovering new sounds. Funny ... every time I look at your personal photo I see Philip Glass peeking out at me! Love his work.
