Did we scare Lasciel off?

Hopefully not. Sure, he made a mistake, but he's also new. Continually shitting on newbies instead of teaching them how to explore right is exactly what gives sites like UER an "old boys club" reputation and drives many newer explorers directly to Instagram when they don't feel welcome here.

"Sorry, I didn't know I'm not supposed to be here," he said, knowing full well he wasn't supposed to be there.

Incorrect. Newbies do it to themselves.
READ as many threads and all the pinned threads instead of posting shit at the get go.
We can be helpful but we're not bloody nurse maids.
If they won't invest time to do their homework here, are inept, and like to blame others for their fuck ups... oh well.

Sounds kinda like youre volunteering.

Well go for it.

UER needs a compassionate ambassador to guide and nurture the noobs you'll make a great one I know!

Yay I can stop trying to help now.

Wow, I guess this would be considered continually shitting on the newbie, well Im just friggin sorry, you help him next time. Hold his hand and tell him encouraging slogans, like "if you don't try youll never be great like that 2Xplorations guy" LOLOL or; "its Ok youre among friends tell us what its like not knowing a friggin thing" HARHARHAR...

Heres the deal because youre an FNG I will be more polite than usual.

Exploring is going out and finding stuff

Having somebody tell you where to go and take some snapshots is just tourism

Youre missing all of the point and half of the fun but whatever...

Jesus christ man, you know I respect you but what the hell crawled up your ass and died today to warrant this level of anger? All I said was that continuing to make fun of him after he acknowledged his fuckup is counterproductive, and that doing so is a trend I've noticed on many threads in this forum.

And for the record, I do try to help. I may not hold them by the hand because that's not what exploring is about, but I do sometimes explain what they did wrong and why they shouldn't do it, or at the very least point them in towards the FAQ without browbeating them. A nudge in the right direction without snide commentary isn't the same as holding their hands.

Why do I do it? I do it because I too remember what it was like to be a newbie discovering a wonderful thing for the first time with a bit more excitement than common sense. Common sense can be taught, but not passion. Sometimes I think some people on this forum have forgotten what that's like.

2X has helped dozens over the years as have I but if you act like an ass here you will get called on it.
We've also ferreted out dozens of trolls and spammers.
No common sense in this hobby can get deadly in just a step.
You have those with common sense and those with insanity.
You do recall the definition of insanity?
By all means PM them, coach them, but don't get upset if it comes back and bites you.

UER is as easy or hard as you make it... we like exploring pics... KISS

Ah. My apologies! I'd blame it on being a noobie, but I'll be honest... I flat out didn't read that one. I didn't even see it, since I jumped right into the US South posts. I'll spend more time in the Rookie section.

Thanks again!

When the OP admitted they fucked up and were honest about why, the issue ceased to be a big deal to me. Unless they do the same thing again, then it's water under the bridge as far as I'm concerned. Otherwise, if I'm honest with myself, I'm probably just being a hypocrite because I'm insinuating that I've never done anything stupid online - like not reading the forum/group rules before posting... And yeah, it's pretty fucking embarrassing (to me anyways) to get called out on something stupid that I did or said, but you can be damn sure I won't do it again. In that respect, I think there is actually some usefulness to calling someone out (within reason) when they, oh, I don't know, ask for locations, FM, or whatever.

For me personally, I'm pretty fucking good at avoiding confrontation overall (yes, I blame my mother, but whatever ), which in some ways has probably served me well around here.
I've been around UER long enough to notice most people fall into two broad camps: either you're one of the trolls; or people that thrive off (or start) the chaos that may ensue at any given moment on any random thread or forum or something juvenile like that.., or you actually have something useful to contribute and add value to the group as a whole.
Fortunately, I really believe that most of the UER members fall into this latter category. Unfortunately, the ones that fall into the former category may be less in number, but their irritating, ignorant behavior seems to disproportionately effect the course of far too many conversations. I'm not a forum expert, but I suspect this happens pretty much everywhere that allows a keyboard and has an internet connection.

In summary: Stupidity will spread like a cancer if given the chance (and there are a lot of stupid assholes out there), but, I'm really grateful to the members here were nice to me when I first got here (although I admit I did actually read the rules and take suggestions) and I'm glad I stuck around.

Meh, I'm going to refer the next newbie ghost hunter to Aran to help them reach their full potential

Perhaps a more structured approach for those that need a leg up for the first few years...
Mantra: "Everybody is a winner"

A uniform would help to instill confidence, preparedness and clearly show thier rank and status.
A system of learning goals and merit badges would make it near foolproof.
Blah, blah, blah...

Incorrect, forums are a thing of the past, that's why so many old prominent ones are shutting down at breakneck speed. A lot of the younger guys aren't aware of forum "etiquette", such as rules for new users and sticky's, because they simply haven't grown up with these systems and unwritten conduct code. Doesnt hurt to help them along, especially when they reach out in a hobby such as this. But I guess being prideful and patting yourself on the back is a bit more important than helping the new guy. Makes sense I guess. I must admit, I'm quite envious that you were never, at one point, a new urbexer looking for guidance. Wish I knew everything from the start. Kudos, I have nothing but admiration.

Before there was the internet I was exploring in the 60's and onward.
No clubs or help books about that then, bah-ha-ha-ha... TFF

Everything about this site I learned mostly by reading threads, posts and finally after establishing myself here from other FMs mostly in PMs.
This literally was the first website I joined after I learned to use my first computer in the 2004, and starting shooting in earnest the same year.

Until you've read at least a thousand pages here, spent a couple weeks and posted some descent sploring threads don't try bsing me.
Read my first threads here... there are pics in case you need them

What are you talking about?
Before there was America I was exploring in the 1760's and onward.
I didn't go to no clubs cuz I couldn't pull no women.

I'm naive and spoiled. My mommy gave me money all my life.

Everything about my life is trash. I learned to fuck by watching animals at the zoo. But I never got to use my skills. I make threads, and post about absolutely nothing relevant. I established myself as a complete fucktard. It go down in the PMs.

This literally was the first website I jerked off to. I joined after I learned to use my first computer in the 2015, it was a state-of-the-art Apple II. And starting shooting people to prove I'm still gansta in earnest the same year.

Until you've read at least a billion pages of midget porn, spent a couple years in an asylum, and post up on the block selling crackrock to kids, with some descent hoes, don't try bsing me, or BDSMing me. Actually BEDSM me. I'd like that.
Read my lips no new taxes... there are pics of my balls in case you need them

*This literally is my first old man rant that makes no sense.

2X has helped dozens over the years.

He has also wrestled a grizzly bear. And won.

He was the first person to use the acronym UER as a verb.

He correctly diagnosed Lord Rick's mental disorder.

He single handedly discovered the entrance to teh tunnelz at the Super Conducting Super Erection thingy in Maypearl Texas.

And, known internationally for his swagger and bravado, he was THE founding member of the DEA aka Dallas Explorers Association.

UER is as easy or hard as you make it. Life is hard then you die. Don't be stupid it makes life even harder. KISS

And, I nearly forgot 2X is an accomplished sniper/counter sniper with 1 confirmed kill.

That confirmed kill was 1791yds with a 338 Lapua Magnum using a 268 grain FMJ boat tail spitzer of his own design.
