There's the brightside and then there's the underside

I ended up taking it easy this week. Mostly because my more ambitious plans fell through. Visited a few local spots.

Burnt Down Mill

I don't know how long ago this place burnt down and sometimes, I get to thinking, its always looked like this. Despite the emptiness and exposure, I like the place. Then, a couple years ago, I discovered the real beauty was underneath.

Next stop: The Giant Mill. I've known about this spot for a while but never visited. I never hear of anyone else visiting and I've never seen pictures and that always makes me worry.

Managed to find the owner's grave in a nearby cemetery. Taken through the glass door:

Last Stop: One of those ubiquitous and ubiquitously mystery stone chambers littered across Northern NE.

Thanks for looking!

Really like that first shot, the gutted building with a graveyard in front looks really cool.

The owners grave through the glass door looks really cool with the way that refection shows the cemetery in the background. That shadow on the road though is pretty creepy.

Sounds like there is some good history available to the site if you were able to find the owners.

Thanks! I thought that one was nice and seasonal. Its a cool graveyard too. Got some real old graves from the 1700's.

Thanks, I was very happy with how it came out! The mausoleum was in full view of the factory too, just looking down on it from the top of the slope. Definitely a weird place.

If that's the cemetery I'm thinking of, there are a fair number of politicians including a governor and one Civil War General buried there.

Great basement shots! Huge industrial spots are always really cool.

Got shots. I would love to know the history of these Mills. Sucks one burned down.

What camera did you use for these shots?

Nice shots. That mill looks promising you gotta get in there if I was closer I would.

Also those stone chambers? Much debate about those they are not root cellars of early Europeans and they are not native American, the popular theory born out by other sites and stone carvings is those were likely built by Druids. I know that sounds crazy but mounting evidence suggests they were here before the Mayflower, before Columbus, before the Vikings. We are talking really ancient times do not disturb them. I saw one in New Hampshire of all places.

I almost exclusively use an ancient canon t2i, but I got a nice piece of glass to go on the end; a 17-40 L. Sometimes I break out the full-frame, but its just so damned heavy. Oh well

Yeah, big one too! There was an older portion of the mill still in use next door. It probably used the stream for power and then, when they built the newer part, the stream was in the way so they just built over it.

That mill looks very promising. Why didn't you explore it?
