Moving to Vermont

Hey all, I've been living down in the mid-Atlantic for years now, but I'm excited to say that I'll soon be returning to the northeast, where I got my exploring start all those years ago.

Specifically, I'll be moving to Vermont, in the Burlington area, so I wanted to reach out here to see if there are any other explorers in the region who might be interested in getting together and checking out some places, or who have any suggestions for some must-see locations. Most of what I've found up there through my research is rural, which I'm a fan of, but I certainly wouldn't mind checking out anything of interest in the greater region.

You went the wrong direction; you're suppose the migrant south for the winter

Just when I thought I was out... they pulled me back in.

I grew up in Wyoming and Maine, among others, so I like the winter and am looking forward to living someplace that actually has it again. I fucking haaaaaate Maryland summers, and you couldn't pay me enough to live anywhere further south.

I've done this before but just want to vouch for Baldran. He's a good guy and excellent explorer. Worked with him for a while and he's been a great source of information and help.

I live 40 miles from Burlington in New York... worked in Burlington and it's environs for years. You made a mistake moving there as their crime rate is absolutely ridiculous and the people suck.

and there is really nothing left in the area over there to explore unless you want to risk the redneck o rama drama out near Eden. There are some places left in New York, but not as many as there were. Also, get ready for tick exposure. It's a problem in this part of the world.

well, what the fuck do you want me to do? flower shit up and lie... Burlington is a fucking shithole, especially the North End. Winooski kind of sucks, Colchester is far enough out where its suckage is minor. Essex Junction is meh... Milton is a trailer park kingdom of douchebags and deadbeats. And Georgia is a bunch of hillbillies.

Shelburne and South Burlington aren't bad... Look, simple rules... lock your house/apartment with a couple of deadbolts, keep your pricey shit away from windows or keep windowshades closed. Keep your car locked and leave NOTHING of value in it. Look at the bright side, a few years ago, pillheads were cutting catalytic converters off cars to sell at a couple of salvage yards in the area. That shit ended.

Anyways, have fun.

I'm not some babe in the woods here. I've been trying to get out of Maryland for a long time because believe me, it's far worse than anything you've described. I spent three years in Baltimore, and I'm moving directly from the opioid and meth capital of the state. Anywhere would be an upgrade in terms of crime, redneckery and asshole neighbors. I'm not even going to be living anywhere near Burlington, anyway, just working there. My place is going to be alllllll the way out in the middle of nowhere near Montpelier. Every place I've lived has losers, junkies and assholes, and frankly their presence it not enough to put me off of finally getting back to New England.

Now more importantly, what are these locations you speak of in Eden and New York?

Rural Vermont is so gorgeous. When im not in a rush I like to drive back roads and there are entire towns that are just trapped in the 1800s. And not in some bad, ignorant way. In a charming New England way. There are tons of pre-revolutionary structures as well as some serious Victorian and Gothic Revival architecture. I have to admit, I havent done much abandoned stuff in the state. But you can get to some great stuff driving the same distance you probably are now anyway.

Just drive the back roads in Vermont. You just need to be Careful the places are abandoned and not just rundown houses.

I've been out of the scene for about 12 years, still in VT, lower half. But tonight I added my first entry since, maybe 2006-2007. I have a few locations in mind, I'll add them as I explore them.
