So, random question I figure i'd ask:

What do you all do with the photos/videos/findings from an exploration?

A lot of people probably post photos and what not to sites like Flickr or photobucket, Instagram, etc.. Videos obviously get shared to YouTube. Just curious of what other outlets people come up with to share their experiences from an explore. Or maybe no one does anything.. Do share! Thank you.

I only started taking pics with an actual camera a couple months ago when I've been doing this for years. I usually just put them on my computer and if there's anything worth posting, I'll put it on an instagram account that only my friends and I follow.

Post most of it to the Flickr account linked in my signature, with each album corresponding to a location. If it's really interesting I'll make post a UER thread on it.

I'm more of a picture taker than video...I put them in my computer photo album (my UE section is titled 'Abandonment Issues'), and generally just share them here. I don't have a FB, IG, Flickr account, so outside of what I post here or occasionally text to friends or family (my dad especially gets a kick out of getting one of my random 'look what I found' pic texts), they just hang out on my laptop for my future enjoyment.

Hoard them. Edit them for a bit and then promptly abandon them on the harddrive.

I have photo albums.
Like, actual books filled with shitty little 4x6 prints from Walgreens.
I like to Patty & Selma my friends with them. (If you don't get that reference, watch any episode of The Simpsons with them in it.)

Built a website to show them. Takes time, so I'm well behind in getting them all up.

I'm heading out on Monday for a week at a historic mine in southern Nevada. Should be AZ fun trip. Might be on YouTube again.

How much does it cost to run a website like that, and what do you use to build it? That seems like a pretty cool way to do things, with lots more customization than most other platforms.

Obviously not Abby, but hosting a personal website is pretty much free nowadays. You don't necessarily even need to have any programming experience, as free templates for any purpose exist on the internet (biographies, media sharing, etc.).

If a static page is enough for you (gotta add everything by hand), GitHub is a good choice. If you want generated content, you may upload binaries to either Heroku or Zeit for free, for example. It's the domain name you need to pay for, and the prices vary a lot. Nothing unbelievably expensive however.

As for the topic of the thread, I'd share my pictures here if I weren't so anxious. I'm not a good camera man and usually spend more time experiencing everything first-hand. That said, maybe I'll get to it eventually.

Actually I pay about $50 a year for hosting of the site. For my site I originally used a HTML editor named Hotmetal, but it lost developer support and won't run on Windows 10. I've taken to just coding by hand. It's pretty easy since the page layout is so simple. The main page is a bit trickier since I'm using a hover-over procedure to change the color of the link.

There are plenty of tools available but I just haven't found one that I like very well. As adorb said, there are a lot of resources out on the web.

Another ditto. The ones I do share are only shared here and with a small group of friends on my personal FB acct.

Bit of both, for me.

Before moving to film I did mucho bracketing/blending, so I have nearly all of the usable individual exposure files plus the finished composites stashed away on a hard drive. Now that I'm shooting mostly 120 and Polaroid the file counts are lower but the size of the scans are massive.

The winners of each batch make their way to Flickr/social media, while only the cream of the crop images get a devoted write-up on my website, and eventually printed for sale at the local art walk. If I have enough material + research I'll do a full historical and exploring writeup about the spot, but I'll oft spend weeks/months on these and they get tiring.

There was a time where I'd shoot both still and video in every location, but now abhor what YouTube has done to urban exploring and have pretty much abandoned the medium. If I feel video footage is warranted, I'll stash it away for later... have enough on my plate as it is.

Physical things recovered from certain locations (particularly abandoned malls) get either archived, digitized and/or loaned/donated to interested museums and historical societies.

Thanks, I think it's cool to see what other creative ideas people come up with to share their experience at locations.

I read that the guy who created the game Zelda was inspired by exploring caves and desolate forest areas when he was younger. Stuff like that blows my mind.

Dump em on the external hard drive (backed up to another identical drive for redundancy of course), edit in Lightroom, post on Flickr, post on here.

HTML editor named Hotmetal...

I also used Hotmetal back in the days of yore. I also moved on to just using the Vim text editor, then just a self-hosted Wordpress install which I do my best to not update.

My pics and the occasional video get dumped on my NAS after the sorting and editing workflow. Eventual upload to Flickr.

Dump them them on my two encrypted 8tb hdds in raid 1, then every so often back up just the photos on my two offsite 2tb hhds. I usually edit a few right away then forget about them for a week or longer and come back to edit them again with fresh eyes. I share some with the people involved and close friends. I post some, but only if the place is demo'd, renovated, very obscure, not at all sensitive, legally accessible, or permanently sealed (which I usually have a high threshold for).

I used think 3tb was a lot.
Now even my smartphone has 512gb of storage.
