Built and opened in the 1980s, Waterfall Park was once a popular attraction for both Outer Banks tourists and Rodanthe locals.

1.

However, like many small amusement parks of the day, it slowly declined through the 90s and 2000s, and ultimately closed in 2010 in the wake of the recession.

2.

The place was already falling into disrepair by the time Hurricane Irene hit in 2011.

3.

Since then, the former Waterfall Park has continuously deteriorated into ruin.

4.

Including this rickety-looking bungee tower.

5.

As you can see, nature's already begun to take it back.

6.

Parts of the former racetrack have been torn up. From what I could tell, racing/go-karting was its specialty.

7.

Case in point.

8.

9.

Dive in!

10.

Like I said, the specialty was racing, but there was also the bungee tower, the pool, and the waterslide (all previously shown).

The owners have obviously not done much to maintain the property (the same family still owns the land), and just a month before my visit the park was declared a public nuisance.

Partial gallery available here, apparently Imgur couldn't handle some of the images: https://imgur.com/gallery/K2MnTT7

Great pics! I was there in February; I rather enjoyed the explore...I think that pool in pic 9 was used for bumper boats, and there was a very overgrown mini golf course there also.
Thanks for sharing! 😃

Of course you climb the rickety-looking bungee tower, right?

This is under process of being demoed. The county wants it gone, and I'm not sure if the older women that owned it is even still alive.

Glad I got to it, then.
