Wandering the Wards

Just a handful of film shots from a couple of my favorite asylums, one of which (Westborough State Hospital) was recently demolished.

This year, I've been making more of an effort to get out and experience these places while they're still around. No matter how hectic school or work can get, nothing provides respite quite like soaking in some history, getting lost in collapsing hallways, and shooting some peely paint. As these pieces of history disappear, I become more and more grateful for the time I've spent there, the effort I've put in, and the memories I've made.

Every one of these photos is fantastic! However, seven and seventeen specifically stand out the most for me.

Cool set. #17 seems fitting in a melancholy way. What was your experience like the first time you explored the site?

Beautiful set, and I can't agree more. Nothing refreshes and resets me quite like the smell of mildew and the sound of silence. Its therapeutic.

Thanks so much everybody .

What was your experience like the first time you explored the site?

I wasn't quite sure what to expect before my first visit, as I hadn't done much prior research, but I was struck by how much character it had and the varied levels of decay between different buildings. Collapses and blocked tunnels/basements made it a bit of a labyrinth. It was a great introduction to the hospital, spent almost an entire day there and it still took multiple subsequent visits to see the whole site.
