While picking up a pig for a party in Colorado, I spotted the chimney on this place. After a bit of research and a video I found, I decided to check it out a few days later. Upon arrival, I realized how badly the vandals had hit it. Graffiti was literally pouring out of the windows. I also noticed the greatly improved security measures. After waiting out a cop, getting past the new fence, and scaling a crumbling brick wall, we were in. Despite the graffiti, it was still a really cool place. I was extremely rushed so I couldn't get all the shots I wanted.

1. I don't normally do exteriors, but I needed something on my card in case I got stopped.

4. Note the mountain of sugar from the busted silo on the right.

Great find! I have seen photos from here once before from a friend that lives in Colorado.

Great shots.

Love #4 and the last shot, despite the graffiti that looks like a really cool place.

This exact place was my first explore ever! :3

I was 16, and agreed to go out dicking around with some friends from rehab for the day, but while it was light out, two of them got caught trying to go in. They got ticketed, but the property owner never showed up to court, so they were never charged. Another group of us went back at night. I was too freaked out about cops, so I stayed at the car. Eventually, I realized all my friends were inside (successfully!) and having fun, so I left the car, took a piss in a field, and went in. But, like I said/implied, I was a drug-addled kid, and didn't quite think things through. Instead of finding a proper POE, I scaled a chain link fence and climbed over the barbed wire at the top. I ripped my skirt and cut my leg, but didn't give a shit because I was so afraid of getting caught.

I wasn't into photography. I wandered around for a while and smoked a cigarette, wondering where my friends were. Eventually, someone shined a flashlight at me - another group of teenagers. I yelled "Danny?", but they were like "no, who are you?" and it was hilariously awkward. I don't remember finding my friends, but I remember running into that other group of delinquents.

I heard a lot about gangs meeting up in the mill, and that there were owls, and that there was a noose hanging from the rafters in one section. All that intrigue! How could I not, once the cops cleared out for the day, go back again as an adult? Well, shit, I never did. I hated living in Colorado more than I like exploring.

I say all this knowing you're young yourself, and I want to say that I really appreciate the fact that you've got a much better head on your shoulders than my friends and I did.

Nice set; you do it justice.

Nice pics, this place looks great! I'm really liking 11 & 13, and that last shot.
Also; LOL @ Mr. Bitey...that episode is where I got the line that's under my Homer pic! 😅

I knew someone here had that line under their avatar, and knew it was from the sugar episode - but couldn't remember which member it was... D-oh!

classic colorado location! still a fun spot.

by the way, that pile is actually Lime, which is essential in processing the sugar from beets. Its such an important ingredient for sugar production that they made it on site in that building behind the main sugar plant where the pile resides.

Cane sugar mills are sticky sweet fun
Not many left now.
Did the PHL Domino plant back in the late 80's.
Nothing like the smell of rotting sugar...

Thanks! I have no idea how I do it, you just have to develop an eye for pictures.
But general composition knowledge helps. Look up leading lines and the rule of thirds. Symmetry can be nice too.
