No, but saw one happen. Family friend buys a house built in 1926. By 1966 it was sitting abandoned. Later in 1966 it is "rehabbed" and lived in for 4 years. My grandmother in 1970 buys it and her daughter<mom> and her kids move in...

Happened with the house that got me into exploring. It had been abandoned for years, and the town wanted to tear it down because it was attracting shady-ness. Instead, someone bought it and fixed it up. I believe it's currently up for sale again.

I've always dreamt of doing that with a big abandoned house in the woods.

Sort of.... Not quite like what you are describing, but similar in its own way.

A number of years back we explored a couple of mine claims that were for sale. One of them was quite interesting and we ended up buying that claim.

Since that time we have done a lot of work to shore up some of the areas that were in danger of collapse. We've also started digging out the lowest level that has had a lot of dirt and debris flow in with local flooding. We are talking 5 feet deep and a few hundred square feet. Lots of earth to pull up from 100' underground.

It's been a lot of work, but I really enjoy the solitude and being underground.

If memory serves me correctly I believe Motts ( https://opacity.us/ ) bought an abandoned building in Detroit and rehabbed it into an art center.

I did not buy it since it's millions but ive been repairing, cleaning and fixing some part of an old malting plant where we do a huge event each year, for the past 7 years.

Look into 'urbexmalt' in the events on here tru the convention icon.

I spent a day in Detroit with a guy from there who had bought a few of the houses. Not sure if he's done anything with em, but it was funny how he would just point out random houses that he had bought as we were driving.
