This sort of location shows what can be found when people venture off the insta-youtube exploring tourbus of the flavour of the month locations that everyone flocks to en-masse, getting them ruined and sealed in the process. In fact, my whole day yesterday was spent in such out of the way locations and it was wonderful.

This building was constructed in the 1950s to house Christian missionaries based at their Monastic retreat and school adjacent to it. The retreat is a large manor house with attached chapel that is sadly well locked down and covered in cameras however the former accomodation building behind it has been left to fall into a wonderful state of decay over the last few years. The most awesome part of this place however is to be found outside, below the chapel. Under the rockface above which the chapel sits, is a small area carved out of the rock in which is situated a small shrine, complete with marble altar and statues. It's all quite surreal and a very strange place to be with the overgrown ivy tumbling down over the ceiling.

The building is in the middle of nowhere so after parking up and a lengthy walk we made it inside. I loved this building, the condition and decay is the kind you rarely see any more and even though it dated from the 1950s it was stupidly photogenic.

Cool! A cross taken from the ceiling tiles. Fitting.

I absolutely LOVE the symmetry in 13 and 15 - it's really satisfying. And the yellow/green glass in 4/7/18/19 is beautiful.

Amazing location, and not a drop of spraypaint in sight. Loving that altar and the crosses in 13 and 17.

Damn, the lighting filtering through the vegetation and windows in 15 is utterly gorgeous.

Lovely set!

Cool spot! I really like the green tones in 16 and the vines growing into the room in 20.

Thanks everyone, it's a really nice chilled place to be. I'd love to get inside the manor house/chapel, sadly it's covered with many cameras and no possible entry - for now. I saw some old photos of the interior taken not long before it was closed and it is stunning.
