Anybody in the Shreveport area? I've extended my exploration range from where I live, and Shreveport is the next town on my list.

Shreveport has tons of stuff. It feels a litter sketchier in a lot of areas than other some towns in the region, but definitely lots to see. I found a lot just by following the RR tracks on google satellite.

I saw your prison post, did you get to check out any other spots?

I sadly haven't! Its not a place I frequently visit on free time. I haven't dedicated a day just to scouting it out yet! But it is pretty sketchy out there, I know that. Here in Texarkana is the 11th most dangerous city in the US. Maybe sometime this next week Ill visit Shreveport, but I have no clue where to start!

I didn't know Texarkana was number 11, damn. Shreveport has a much sketchier vibe to it, IMO.

Ironically, I was just browsing through some old photos I took of the downtown Texarkana hotel back in 2016.

Edit: clarification

1.

Yeah, the place is rough. Last time I was there at night, me and some friends walked through the playground there at downtown and interrupted a drug deal. We turned a corner and before we knew it, the drugs on the bench about five feet from us and no one around them. We quickly understood what deep shit we'd be in if we where caught next to it, and without a word, we all sped walked past. We didn't want to take the time to stop and turn around. Im glad because as I walked past, I looked to my right and saw one of the fucks (He looked to be in his 40's, with a go-tee)staring at us,(mainly making eye contact with me) right in between the wood of the playground, probably ten feet from me. I didn't wanna freak out and cause a scene, so I ushered them forward. We met up with some other people around my age in the skate park thirty feet from the place, and warned them. We looked back and we saw a dude on the top of the place peering over at us. We quickly got outta there. One of the girls I met actually just got scammed because she gave money to this homeless lady to help her pregnant dog, and as she walked away she heard the lady shooing the dog away. We called it quits when we saw a shirtless guy walk by the park with something long and metal in his hand. (It could been scrap or some shit from the bridge but we didn't wanna stick around long enough to find out)

Edit* (Where where checking out the abandoned buildings near that area. Looking back, Urbexing places right next to homeless shelters right next to courthouses and police stations, connected to active federal prison MIGHT have been a little risky in the first place.

Weird, Texarkana did not sketch me out at all. But I did not wander around at night, just bar hopped. I will say that there is a whole different level of redneck in them there parts.

Yeah, it's also relatively boring around here other than crime news. The reddit page for it literally say's "The place where nothing happened." One of the bigger highlights is a old blockbuster being turned into "Fuzzy's Taco Shop"

Funny you mention Independence... I'm headed that way in the morning (on my way to KC)!

Cool, have fun up there...KC is my hometown; til I moved out here in 2014. I'd guess there's alot to explore there, though I wasn't much of an urban explorer until last year.
Hoping to go back in June for my brother's wedding (and hopefully some 'splorin on the side!). I really miss the burnt ends (almost impossible to find in NC) and deep fried tacos from In-A-Tub.
Anyway, have a great time; be safe, and good luck! I look forward to lots of pics! 😃

I didn't get much of a vibe from Texarkana other than it being completely empty and mildly depressing, but I guess it doesn't surprise me. Pine bluff and some parts of Birmingham top it for me. Maybe Newark too.

Pine Bluff is in rough shape. It's a little depressing too, I have to agree.

I also did not know that Texarkana was 11th. I have felt the same "sketchy" feeling in parts of Shreveport though. I know exactly what you mean. And, these are the reasons why I will no longer explore at night. Ever. For any reason. Daytime is always better in my book anyway.

As a reminder, I'm going to be thru this area in a few more weeks.

Coming from Jackson, MA to Shreveport, LA (6/10-6/12) - Monday - Wednesday
From Shreveport, LA to Dallas, TX (6/12 - 6/14) Wednesday - Friday
From Dallas, TX to Little Rock, AK (6/14 - 6/15) Friday - Saturday

If anyone wants to meet up along the way and hit some spots, and make some recommendations for good places to EAT, hit me up.

I know Apollo May and I have been talking, but I'd welcome others too.

Drop me a line here on my on Insta @Vessira

Remind me closer to the time you'll be coming from Shreveport to Dallas. I'm right in the middle. If nothing else, let's try to meet and grab a bite to eat. There are a few places around still worthy of an explore.

Speaking of, I think you still owe me an explore. We never got a chance to meet up when I was out that way last time (at least two years ago now).

lol yeah you are right! The building we were talking about is still supposedly going to be remodeled or made into apartments or something, but I haven't seen any movement at all on the place.
