Where do you prefer to park at abandonments?

Now that I have been looking into new locations in my area that are beyond biking distances it brings the question to my mind of what is the best place to park?

From a somewhat tactical/stealth standpoint I would think down the road from the location or off to the side at a nice little clear area to pull over (within a mile or so of the location) or at a nearby store, business, etc. would be best and then walk to the location. On the other hand from a safety and non-suspicious standpoint (not walking a mile down the road and into the woods) would roadside right out front of the location or in front of a gate outside location be optimal?

In these situations I question what would happen if a cop would drive by or a nosey neighbor sees your car parked and empty in front of site that they know is abandon and most likely by a closed gate potentially with no trespassing signs, or worse what if someone happened to come to access the property for some reason and you are blocking the gate?

Now given my situation may be questioned a little less since I do have a retired police car (awesome I know) that I would choose to take on certain explores and for scouting that potentially would draw less attention if parked out front of locations instead of my primary vehicle I would still love to hear what everyone’s consensus is regarding your preferred parking.
Do you prefer to be in plain sight roadside, or in front of a locked gate or would you rather park down the road and have a longer run if things went south?

Sorry if this is long but I would love to get some insight into how you choose where to park regarding aspects of the location and the surrounding areas.

It really depends on the spot. If you were to see someone parked somewhere and not think anything of it, then it's probably good. Just make sure it's legal, because the last thing you want is to have to pay a ticket.

I don't park.
I airdrop in commando style, all in camo with 900lbs of photography equipment.

its cat-n-mouse with security all the while humming the mission impossible theme.

and then, when my mission is complete, I call an uber.

welcome to sarcasm.

So I assume the local PD would be a great spot as well, especially if it is right across the street. ;)

So if I wear extra camo does that mean 1000lbs of photo equipment?

Theres a few threads on this here is one with pics! No one answer is going to fit all locations

I used to park in public parking or in Dallas even pay-to-park lots then walk there. Unless you cant walk always hike it in.

Awesome, I appreciate the info and the link, I expected hiking in would most always be optimal. Locations around here definitely vary with the best place to park, but hiking in seems to be the best bet from what I have seen unless it is back in the sticks where no one would come around.

I always put a magnetic police light on the roof of my car and then park right out front. Couple that with wearing an old suit and "I must have forgotten my badge in my other pants!" and they'll never suspect a thing.

This is gold LMAO. Given the way people are around here with that added to having an ex-police car it would not surprise me one bit if no one questioned it unless a real police rolled by, that's Florida for you.

The best part is we had one in another county light up a undercover cop in his suv with his ebay police lights. They took him on a few charges and I'm sure had a nice long talk with him and probably got a nice new SUV to add to their agency. Sometimes common sense isn't common in Florida lol, me personally there ain't no way I would run lights. The car has enough of an effect without them when I'm coming up in the fast lane; fun to watch everyone get over.

That would be the LEAST exciting/strange thing to occur in FL that day. Exhibit A: https://www.ranker...s-2018/ranker-news

These stories make me wonder why Florida has not been fenced in and labeled the USA zoo...

Sadly no, being able to go down pipes in a hurry would be an incredible advantage when exploring.

Ya know, climbing pipes is actually pretty easy.

I'm surprised more people didn't get the florida man joke. The fact that SewerRat is a florida man himself just makes it that much better.

I'm sure being a Florida man will make all my stories even better. Hopefully I don't have any news stories involving me doing anything to typical but hey you never know. I gotta keep you guys and gals entertained.
