Posted by Thats_abandoned Thank you I’ll keep that in mind when shopping, what are your thoughts on the new go pro 5? Is it worth buying or would it be better to just by an actual camera?

Unless you're gonna use a gopro for gopro things, then it would be better to get an actual camera. Gopros are designed to be the best for action sports, not day to day filming. They especially suck for photography but it seems like you aren't as worried about that. The hero 5 is pretty cheap right now and it's video is comparable to a camera of the same price, or better. I've got 2 hero 4s and a new original (not the original original) and I only use them for my biking stuff. The hero 4 is also comparable to the 5, but the 5 is easier to use. You can get good footage straight out of the 5 while the 4 will take a little work. The biggest downside to the gopro is the lens. It has a very wide lens (especially in superview) and is meant purely for action sports. You could probably use purely as a documentary camera just to wear while you explore. It gives a life like field of view, just without the clarity and resolution of the human eye. A regular camera could be used to simply document your explore as well but it would allow you to zoom in on stuff. It wouldn't be like a camera just strapped to you like the gopro. Even if you're holding the gopro and trying to get close ups on stuff, it will still seem like a gopro. The "gopro look" is something that people always try to avoid.
I personally use the sony a6500 which has great lowlight, video, and takes great pictures. The only problem is the price. $1000 for the body is probably more than you'd like to spend if you were looking at the hero 5. I'd say to just go to

Good luck!
