Here's an abandoned fire tower up on a ridge out in Clinton, Tennessee. It's always got the prettiest views, but the road leading up to it is a death trap.

Nice
Stay on the ends of those steps and planks.
With no hand rail they are very dangerous; wood sometimes fails with no warning.
The metal fastners can do the same.
I've experienced both types of failures.

Just when I thought I was out... they pulled me back in.

Very nice! I've found a few fire towers around here, haven't been to any of them yet. Maybe if summer ever returns...and the rain hasn't rotted the stairs.
Thanks for sharing another great set! ☺

I love fire towers! More for the adventure than for the pictures. The harder to get to, the more satisfied I am. I've never seen one with that style of stairs but windows at the top. Cool find!

Edit: Also, props for going up without the railing. I don't know how tall that was but I've been up some that I would never go up without a railing.

Thank you! The planks at the bottom of the tower had been set on fire; definitely not the safest place. I'm always pretty careful, though! And I love heights

This one was definitely a hard drive and a little bit of a challenge hike-wise. It was pretty tall for a fire tower, it swayed in the wind so I definitely think it was an adventure. It's up on Walden Ridge if anyone's curious!

Nice fine...no way I would go up. Afraid of heights!

This thread brought back fond memories of a trip I first talked to my now wife on. She and her friends accompanied me to this abandoned fire tower. She and I returned once after married to fulfill.. a bucket list item.
I'm glad we were able to go back because a couple years after, the whole mountain burned down I heard that the metal stairs are there but the inside and floor are burned out.

There was a cool old cabin below too.
