I've got to say it was easy to find the general area for me but the exact spot to gps to took me a little time. Of course it didn't help doing it on my phone on my lunch break. Great location though. Maybe ill see one of you guys out there.

Am I... smelling a meetup? Looks like a lot of people want to go. As a new member I'd love to see y'all in person.

Given the remoteness of the area, I'd recommend as few vehicles as possible showing up (unless they're motorcycles that can get around the gate)

I really like these photos!

I just wanted to inform you of something however:
You might want to either make this thread private (so random people on the internet can't see it) or edit picture #3
I say that because the details in that photo give away the location. Or, I should say, they give a clue to the location. After ~15min on google maps I was able to find it. So thank you for this location as I can't wait to check it out now when I find the time haha.
This looks like a really cool place and I would hate to see it completely trashed.

Oh I didn’t even think about that, thank you for letting me know! I’ll just remove it, you guys have all seen it anyways.

I would definitely be down for a meetup but I agree about the car situation. There’s basically one, maybe 2 or 3 if you squeeze, spots to park without parking right in front of the gate to the place.

Edit: I actually just remembered that the gate blocking the road that goes up to it wasn’t actually locked. So we could just open the gate and drive in, depending on how you guys feel about that.

the old ‘close it behind you’ trick. Classic. I will *most likely* be headed up there next Thursday if anyone would want to meet there.

You might want to check the flooding and road conditions first. I tried to get there 2 days ago and many roads and bridges were closed, so I had to give up.

Yikes. Looks like it’s raining all next week as well.

I'll be riding in on the moto so that's a non issue for me. Make it a weekend and I'll try to be there. Sundays are ideal for me.
Looks decently paved I may still show up if raining.

While the road there is generally paved it's one of the rougher roads I've been on and there are a few gravel sections. Not an ideal sportbike or cruiser road, although it can certainly be done. You'll have more fun on something with a little more suspension travel.

I'd be down to ride up there again sometime, but am busy the next couple weekends.

Yeah I'm waiting until road conditions improve before heading up. Weekends work best for me too.

Sending my hopes and prayers to all the people stuck in the flooding.

So, the road is open to this place. I took a 3 hour drive to see it for myself, and... it's all I hoped for. The gate is locked now, so be prepared to park right off of the main road. I was not really prepared for the interior to be as dark as it was, so I didn't bring quite the right equipment to capture a lot of the inside. But, wow. It's hard to understand the size of this concrete monolith until you are standing right in front of it. I probably could have just taken photos outside of the architecture for an hour.

12. This little office area had binders filled with these circular graphs that appear to be tests ran at the facility. I didn't really take any pictures of them because they actually reveal the official name of this location.

If anyone still wants to visit this place, I think now is the time!! It's quite a long drive, but if you're a fan of scenery.. it's gorgeous.

Cool pictures! There were some weird circle graphs at a hospital power plant once. Anyone know what they are?

I used to work in a crematorium at a pet cemetery; we had a temperature chart that was loaded with a circular sheet of paper, and 2 separate pen cartridge things (one for each thermocouple) would drag along the sheet, showing the temperature fluctuations. When working properly, they needed to be changed out after 24 hours of operation. Even though there was a digital temperature monitor on the machine, we had to keep documentation of the heat output in order to ensure the cremators were running at the required temps to run efficiency, and stay in accordance with EPA regulations.
The charts in pic 12 look pretty small compared to what we used (ours were about the size of a pie pan), I would assume those serve the same, or similar purpose.

this looks super awesome, I hope to check it out soon-- will post updates when I do. you think it would be a good idea to bring a mask to a place like this or should the air be ok?

A mask is always a good idea, but the air quality here seemed better than a lot of California abandonments.

Took a trip out here recently. Parking options (other than right off the main road) exist but involve a bit of hiking.

Definitely worth capturing with better equipment than I brought with me.

I stopped by today. Gate is still locked.

There were half a dozen people doing graffiti when I showed up.

Went there recently, and this place now seems to have a very dedicated security person. They went inside the building at night shining their flashlight around for quite a long time. We parked hidden away from the main road, so I'm not even sure if they knew we were inside. No idea whether we went there on a bad day, but this place definitely blew up.

Also worth noting that the surrounding area suffered extensive burn from the recent forest fires, but the building itself seems to be intact.
