I visited a mental hospital complex last weekend with the intent of just looking around at the renovated buildings. I suspected that there were still abandoned ones but wasn't quite sure. Upon arrival, my wishes were granted when I saw the grand old hospital buildings still left vacant. They did however complete renovations on two of the better buildings but they were still cool inside. The exteriors were still in such good shape that to an untrained eye, the abandoned buildings would just look as if they needed some new paint.
The general vibe of the place was extremely chill, and the local residents weren't too nosey. There were however cameras and people from the active buildings but I naturally blend in well as a kid. I'll be heading back soon to finish the place, as it was quite a large complex. Hopefully the chapel hasn't been touched yet.
I'm pretty happy with most of the pictures. I'm excluding one or two just because looking back, they're kinda terrible shots.
Enjoy!
1. Garages on the outskirts of the campus. The chapel pews are being kept in there right now.
2.
3.
4. A random and very large painting sitting in the security room.
5.
6. Summer colors in the winter. This a shower room (I think) but in an administrative building.
7. The brown and blue really remind me of Toy Story for some reason.
8. The tool room. There were a few of these. Next to one was a board that had instructions for building a chair on it.
9. The hospital system that this was in had some of these gate things in each building. I find it interesting how well they hold up compared to everything else. Also, I have no idea what this was there for since the end of the building was about 10 feet after it and there were like two rooms.
10.
11. You can see where they painted over. Each floor had its own color.
12. Again with the paint. The pencil sharpener was still full of shavings.
13. In one of the many cupolas, facing away from the main property.
14. Another sink. I only got this because of the paper towels. There was another toilet that had fresh toilet paper that someone had brought and I was tempted to use them. And another with original toilet paper. Unfortunately I didn't get any usable shots of them.
15. I forgot to scoot the chair over but who ever staged this obviously didn't do a very good job.
16. These were almost like stable doors. The "LINEN ROOM" had a door like these but it also had a top half that could close. Anyone know what these were?
17.
18.
19. I was trying to get the hallway through the door but it didn't work very well.
20. An odd cage separating the normal looking stair case from the attic and elevator room.
21. Looking from one to another. I think the one seen through the window is atop the spiral staircase in a renovated building.
22.
23. I wish whatever was in the window was ore interesting but oh well. Seconds after taking this a tour group walking by and I was seen by one of the tour takers. I'm guessing she didn't know that the building was abandoned though because this one was in especially good condition from the partial renovation they had already done.
24. The good ol' spiral stair case. I tried my best to make it fit in with the rest of the shots but anyone who had seen it before will know that this isn't what it used to be. I'm glad the hotel lets people look around though.
Hope you enjoyed! Feel free to critic anything you want and as much as you want! Hopefully I'll be heading back soon to finish it off.
