I had the week off so I ran off to Detroit without any specific agenda. As usual the trip extracted a toll. I was stopped by police after the first building I entered, split my jeans, snapped my camera strap, the top LCD glass panel on my 70D popped off, and my drone crash landed due to high wind just outside of the Packard plant. At least I didn't blow out two tires this time. 😅

Here's the first drone shots.

Pretty cool
Once affordable civilian ones can navigate into building and remember their way out, drones will be the absolute shit.

these are great - love em! What was the outcome of the police encounter?
I did a Detroit tour last summer (no drone). They really have been doing a lot of bulldozing these last few years! The neighborhoods out past the eight mile are just vanishing!

I was let off with a warning that the building I entered was someone's property and that I shouldn't be in there. If you get stopped by police I've learned to just keep your hands visible and always reply with "yes sir, no sir." Even when I received my only trespassing ticket, it was downgraded because the police thought I was an enlisted. That was just good advice from my retired military father.

Yeap, hands visible, complete compliance, no nervousness and politeness go a long way with LEOs.
Always wait for them to ask and keep answer simple and direct.
Even if they're angry, maintain your composure... and never call them 'boss'

Why the orange vest?

I wear the vest for a few reasons.

1) Increased visibility in case I end up injuring myself. Since I'm exploring by myself, it's an extra safety step. I'm very clumsy. I'll take it off if I'm heading into somewhere sensitive.

2) Increased visibility on streets. I've almost been hit before.

3) Looking like a construction worker tends to mitigate interference. People tend not to bother me if I'm wearing the vest and my hard hat.

Do you mean for the drone? If so, my Mavic Air has a controllable 3 axis gimbal.

Yes, but good luck as they are on the Packard Plant. Security is all over that place.

That's awesome! I've never heard of it before. Did some digging around google, what a great idea!
