| | | Hey there everyone! Believe it or not I didn't go into hiding after this thread exploded, I only just now have the time to respond to it. And I mean holy shit. The last time I was on here there was just one page of responses, and now there's four!?! I feel honored, really. Jokes aside, I did want to make a sort of "I'm sorry" post here after having read the initial feedback (on the first page), so that'll take up the next couple of paragraphs. I'll still give my thoughts on the IG stuff after that though. TL;DR: I didn't mean to be invasive, and even if you didn't really mean it like this, I've pretty much "learned my place" here. I'll PM some of you guys in the next couple of weeks, when I get the chance. So to start out with, I want to clarify something: while yes, I am still curious about the "offline community", what I was more interested in getting information about was this online section of the community. I've been on forums before (unrelated to urbex) where I've barely posted because I know so little about the topic and the community around it that I don't really feel comfortable contributing anything at all. I didn't want to just lurk on this forum, so I decided the best thing to do was instead effectively "confront it". Looking at the questions now though I'm aware how invasive some of them were and how much they really only applied to the "offline community". So again sorry about that. That being said, other questions about things such as "local slang" or "important events" were still done specifically so I could know, in theory, what people were talking about in future threads without having to specifically ask about it and look like a idiot. What can I say? I'm super self-conscious. Additionally, the whole thing about the Imgur album stuff was specifically in relation to this forum. I'm completely aware it won't give me any irl credentials, but on the forum outside of posting in conversations like this the only contributions I could really see myself making are in creating "picture threads" around my adventures or missions or whatever the fuck. I can totally see now how that would have made me look like I came from instagram though. The other thing that I wanted to address in hopes that it'll clear some stuff up is Smurf's question (on the first page) of "What drives you to go to these places?" For me, it's not about clout or impressing my friends or anything like that. I'm a pretty antisocial/individualistic person, so I could really care less about who (in my friend group) sees me or cares about what I do. I haven't been on instagram in about a year now until recently, so I was legitimately surprised to see that there was an actual community on there. Like I had heard things, but just never checked it out. Anyways, what drives me is sort of a personal preservation drive and also just that general exploring/adventuring kind of spirit. The latter one is obvious; discovering things, even if you aren't the first person to do so, is always fun. The former though kind of spawns from a personal belief of mine that one day, invariably, either every location will be sealed shut or destroyed forever, or that I personally will simply be too far away or too "disabled" (somehow) to ever see them again. Kind of personal apocalyptic thinking, but out of the individualism thing, I take it upon myself to try and personally document each location to the best of my abilities, through pictures, videos, etc., so that one day when they're somehow inaccessible there will still be some sort of proof that they exist. I keep all this stuff to myself, so don't worry, I don't post it on youtube or anything. It's just a personal hobby, documenting & preserving stuff through photography. And just to make this clear, I don't see myself as like some "mightier than thou" person for doing this. I just like to be able to look at caves without always having to be in a cave to do so. And yes I do try to physically preserve locations as well by not littering and/or destroying things and all that. Hope that all makes sense. ANYWAYS not trying to derail the thread back to my shit, my two cents on the whole thing is kinda fence sit-y. On one hand I absolutely prefer the practices and ideology behind this part of the community, but on the other hand I do agree somewhat that ya'll can be a bit aggressive at times. I'm well acquainted with forum behaviors and mannerisms though, so I find it hard to actually see what's been exhibited in this thread as being super toxic and condemn-able. Not trying to suck anyone's dick, but I guess I really would rather be a part of the UER community than the Instagram community. Even as a really bad amateur photographer, most of their posts to me seem to be really shitty. Underexposed shots of unimportant shit or super wide and overly-busy shots of the entire city as if they're the first person to take that kind of photo. In regards to the E&M shit, I find the discussion on here super entertaining. As someone that follows them on youtube (just for research purposes I swear) I've honestly been really disappointed with their content lately. I personally stay away from places that are close to active locations/businesses, so it's really annoying to see all of their latest shit be roof topping junk. I mean props for the bravery, I guess. But it's one thing if it's just a hole in the ground or a derelict building, and it's an entirely different thing if there's an active business nearby to report you. Imo roof topping and is just blatant trespassing. All they're doing is providing evidence against themselves. Oh and Saints E&M have actually shown entrance points in their videos, multiple times in fact (the video where they go exploring with their dad is an example). They were one of the most helpful sources when I was first starting out.

Like I said, you definitely sound like you're on the right track with your first post. Perhaps just a bit too nosy about some topics, but I don't hold your curiosity against you. It was still better than most first posts here. There's nothing wrong with the album you posted. It didn't cross any lines and UER likes to see photos, but like clockwork said, most of the MSP folks could care less. There are several local people who are very into photography for documenting, art, and personal reasons, but they tend to just share the photos with trusted friends unless the place has been demo'd, is no longer accessible, or the photo doesn't give anything away. If you're interested in getting involved with the community, reach out and meet up with some folks. From what you've said, I honestly think you'll get along with most people in it.
