NY trip

I'm going to be going to NYC for a few days soon and I'm looking for some general information on the area having never been. I'll be limited to areas served by public transportation.

What are the areas that are "run down" with older buildings, abandonment etc. Are there any areas that have that type of thing? Similar to Detroit or the south side of Chicago?

I'm not necessarily looking to do any exploring just general photography of industrial, old or dilapidated areas. Though if anyone wants to I'd be down to meet.

I personally like wandering around the industrial areas of Brooklyn myself.

I wouldn’t do the subways unless you have some knowledge of them.

If you can get out to Paterson, NJ there is an old silk industry section of the city which has some great old buildings. Just keep your eyes looking in two directions at all times. It is home to some shady folks.
