A large percentage of my exploration takes place while working on the road. More often than not the job site is in a small town, hours from the nearest major airport, with plenty of miles in between to enjoy the new scenery. The end of my shift often finds me far from my destination, somewhere between Point A and Point B, free to spend the rest of my day meandering in any direction I please as long as I arrive on-site at the expected time the following day.

I usually spend some time noting down targets prior to my trip, expecting at least half of them to be demolished when I arrive, this trip to SK was no different. However, this time around, I was pleased to find the exact opposite. The long and desolate prairie highways through Saskatchewan, at least the one's that I happened to be travelling, are much more of a time capsule than I had anticipated.

I will be using this thread to share photos from multiple abandoned rural homesteads that I came across on the road last week. All of these photos add up to maybe 20%, at the most, of what is out there in plain sight. SK is an absolutely wonderful place for those of us with a preference for the leisurely pace of rurex, a place where you can barely drive 15 minutes in any direction without stumbling upon a location much like the examples below. For every place I had stopped to investigate, I would see two more on my way to the next.

I am very much looking forward to returning to Saskatchewan, there were countless beautiful locations where I simply did not have time to stop and smell the asbestos.

This first farm was my favorite of the bunch and the most well preserved, still littered with original literature from its time, much of it Ukrainian in origin.

Though the structures were in rough shape they appeared to be almost entirely free of vandalism, weathered primarily by the elements and time.

Upon entering the living room I was greeted by an angry family of birds who had set up shop atop each door frame. Not the first time on this trip, though it still scares me half to death every single time.

This detour took an unexpected turn when I failed to recognize the colorful stacks of drawers for what they are, movable hives. The farmers have long since vanished, but the bees still call this farm home, and they weren't very pleased to see me snooping around their turf. Getting these shots was trickier than it looks and involved multiple sneak attacks, snapping a few quick shots, and then bolting in the opposite direction as soon as the swarm took notice. Managed to make it out of there without being stung but at one point a bee got caught in my hair and I didn't notice until I was back in the car, at speed on the highway, with the windows rolled up.

Looks like "Viking"

Some models had solid mahogany wood cabinets from what I researched although I cannot find a model like in the photo.

Nice find, leafloving4x4gal.
It's a Canadian manufacturer but couldn't find any info on them other than it was sold in North America.
TV in the 50's was like smartphones are today.

Still a bit more to share from this trip.

Been very busy with work lately, haven't had much time to sit down and post.

This home was the most recently abandoned of the bunch, still partly furnished and littered with possessions from an era I know well. Many of the things left behind here reminded me of my own childhood home.

You guys are so lucky that this stuff doesn’t rot away fast. In Arizona wood disappears almost as fast as water.

The beautiful thing about exploring rural houses is there is a low chance any tweakers or violent criminals are hiding there.

So I've found myself roaming the prairies once again for the month of March with plenty of miles to spare between jobs. I truly love this province, a place I never thought I'd be drawn to, yet each time I visit I leave with an even deeper adoration for its sparsity. I suppose for many of us it's often the places most unlike our homes that we find the most interesting, however the majority of my colleagues in BC find my love for the prairies amusing. Fine by me, that's why they keep sending me back... and I'm a long way from bored of this beautiful place.

Never ceases to amaze me how nature takes over eventually...evidenced by the tree growing up through the steering wheel of that car!!

Thanks for sharing new photos

I tried digging out some snow to reveal a manufacturer/model badge but it was so deep and my lungs weren't enjoying the weather much after trudging around through the bushes. Snow is a double edged sword for UE. Makes it really easy to spot properties that haven't had any foot traffic all winter but man is it ever difficult to get around once you're there.
