| | | Hey guys, So a couple of things. First, I started UER because there wasn't any place like it on the internet in 2002. That's not really the case anymore -- you have Facebook, Instagram, hell even a Reddit subreddit would be sufficient. But as long as the community continues to want to use this site, I'll keep it online. You are correct in that there are no ads, no data mining, hell I don't even have Google Analytics on here. The cost of the hosting is donated, and I personally pay for the hardware and other costs (just upgraded it a few months ago). Regarding Troll Mode, it was created as an experiment. I found that if I banned someone, they would just immediately register a new account and come right back. So I figured that a good experiment would be to place them in a mode where they could see their posts but nobody else could. Then, moderators could approve posts individually. In the history of UER, this has been used on maybe 5-10 people maximum. Regarding Blackhawk... sometimes people haven't done anything bannable, but also are not a positive addition to this site. It's one of those "lesser of two evils" thing. Several people contacted me to tell me that they don't post on the site because every time they do, Blackhawk ruins their post. Does he break the rules? Not necessarily. But does he turn people off and make people not want to contribute? Absolutely. We tried to get him to tone it down, but it was no use. He seems to lack the ability to determine when he's being appropriate or not. So rather than outright banning him, we decided to put him in this mode where a moderator could determine if the post is constructive and positive, and can approve it. Anyway, I decided a long time ago that UER is not a democracy and that I would run things here the way I see fit. I'm sorry if that is a harsh reality for you, but it's simply how things go here. Over 16 years and this site is still online, so I must be doing something right. If you like UER, I invite you to continue to use the site, but if you would prefer a place with an elected moderatorship and term limits and tons of transparency and accountability, I suggest you look elsewhere. Cheers, -av

| | | Steed, Archer, Boffo, Darkwolf, Av, Wang and to some extent 2X (I know you aren't on "the team" anymore but thats okay) we all rely on you guys to run this forum and hear us out. Its not easy and we appreciate the time commitment.
This thread was helpful, it gave all of us some insight on whats been going down behind the scenes lately and like Abby said, I think this thread is done. For one, I received my answers, GoldenGate was banned today and Blackhawk and I have been communicating privately, I'm sorry buddy that the results aren't different but Av has spoken, it is what it is, he runs this place. I don't think there's anything 2x and I can do anymore. Having your posts moderated isn't an end-all. I mean shit could be a lot worse.... Mario will be back, I'd advise everyone to keep an eye out. He's easy to spot, all we can do is request to put him in troll-mode apparently, just like Steed said.
