Unfortunately one of London's creepier places has gotten the old development torch. I say this with as much seriousness as possible as there is a mathematical trend with this shit, it goes developers+protected historical building=mysterious fire. More often than not there are definitely vandals, crack heads, squatters, arsonists BUT it always seems to happen to some protected building that a developer REFUSES to repair/secure. It is sad to see this go as since I have come to London I would go to Springbank Park and stare creepily at the building while it stared creepily at me. Rest in pieces Cedars, and to Drewlo Holdings, you guys keep it up! You got another historical burn to your name.

Also this is not a conspiracy! You can check any city with a historical building that mysteriously burns down and take a look at the developers and what they publicly griped about because of that building being there. Niagara is a prime example of buildings going up in flames to make way for something new. If you let it become an un-repairable mess eventually the fire just magically appears. Keep an eye on the INN on the Parkway in Chippawa for your next blaze.

UPDATE: Drewlo is trash! turns out they were planning to incorporate the building into their towers they were planning to build. Like fuck the guy who's family owned it for years and offered to buy it back from them AMMIRITE

FUCK DEVLOPMENT

Same deal with hudson man, the line of events before the fire just make it seem so suspicious.

True that, they fuckin really do assume no one pays attention to them when they take hold of an old place. Everyone's first thought when any abandoned/historic structure is bought by some cookie cutter subdivison, leg humping, swamp diharrea eating, shit condo apartment mongrel...IS! "whens that gonna burn down?"
and don't get me started on any city council anywhere!

it gets me mad bro

It was owned by DrewLo holdings for over 40 years. They put money into "Securing it" and occasionally had a security guard drop by to check on it. But never put money into fixing it up... It made news in 2014 when the former inhabitant brought it to city council's attention and asked for a heritage designation. It was ear-marked as a potential heritage spot, giving it 60 days of protection from demolition.

Chances are they never would've been able to get a demolition permit, which makes the fire even more suspicious.

However Drewlo Holdings is putting up 2 massive condos in Kitchener, which are going to cost millions to build.

It's clear where their priorities are.

What a shame. Also, really odd architectural style for Ontario, looks more like something you'd find in rural Virginia.

Always a pleasure to read your accompanying text.
You have the added benefit of being originally-hometown-proud from the absolute capital Ontario city of developer and city council fueled abandonment fires. They're like fucking serial killers operating across U.S. state lines, banking on the lack of communication between separate agencies to continue operating in obscurity. 'No worries... the general public is too naive to ever piece this together.'

I applaud your choice of the Inn on the Parkway as the next target! Hilariously insightful. Hopefully the fact that there are houses and fencelines only 10-20 metres away from the detached rooms has kept that one at bay. Guaranteed they've actually discussed and considered that, so it seems pretty clear that 'demolition by neglect' is their current goal.

It was vomit inducing to watch how quickly the old meat packing plant along the 420 went up in smoke to make way for the new OPP station.

Would love to see photos of anyone's adventures inside!

Everyone who is willing and able to share

Always thought it was a rather creepy house. It was on my to-do list but I have since crossed it off

I am assuming its got it's own page in the database but since it is long gone, maybe moderators would be willing to make it public?

These are from May of 2013, I don't really get why all the boo hoo about this place, it really was not that great. It had a unique exterior and that's about it as far as I'm concerned.

That is the main draw to it, very out of place for the city and stood out like a sore thumb on the banks. I just loved it for the vibe and the fact people tried to fight to hold onto it.

Great shots! Thanks for sharing! I do like the scattered graffiti/vandalism/poetry here despite how others may feel. The quality of your photos always have a way of bringing interest to what may have been an unexciting interior for you.
