Oleson Log Cabin; Whitewater WI
This property is open to the public. However the cabin is always locked. In the 30yrs I have been coming here, it has only been open twice. Once as a rest spot for a cross country race, and this time when a window shutter was left unsecured. I managed to secure it from the outside when I left. This is on The Ice Age Trail, between La Grange and Whitewater. There is also a spur trail from the John Muir bike trails, although you have to know it as it is unmarked.
The two story cabin was built by Ole Oleson in 1846 out of Tamarack logs. He was a Norwegian immigrant and lived there with his wife and 9 children. It has been restored.
Sorry for pic quality. I probably took these 10yrs ago on a cell phone, before cell phone cameras got fairly decent....
The pic of the outside I found online, the rest I took myself. I regret not taking more, as who knows when I will stumble across an unsecured POE again....
