Oleson Log Cabin; Whitewater WI

This property is open to the public. However the cabin is always locked. In the 30yrs I have been coming here, it has only been open twice. Once as a rest spot for a cross country race, and this time when a window shutter was left unsecured. I managed to secure it from the outside when I left. This is on The Ice Age Trail, between La Grange and Whitewater. There is also a spur trail from the John Muir bike trails, although you have to know it as it is unmarked.

The two story cabin was built by Ole Oleson in 1846 out of Tamarack logs. He was a Norwegian immigrant and lived there with his wife and 9 children. It has been restored.

Hey this is pretty cool. I know this cabin and had never seen it open. Used to hike here regularly when I lived in the area and had been curious about the cabin. Thanks for the look around.

Sure thing! Like I said - it is always locked. I used my bandana to pull the inside latch shut as I closed shutters. This is a historic site - not the bando we are used to. The last thing it needs is local turdlettes partying in there....
