Positive experiences with law enforcement/security?

Awhile back I lived on the east coast in NC. One night soon after I moved down there, my room mate and I found out from our neighbor about the abandoned meat packing plant in Navassa (now demolished). After a Google search for the whereabouts and printing off MapQuest (yes, it was that long ago)directions, us 3 got into my room mate's truck, and away we went. It didn't take long before the printed directions failed us and we were lost in the middle of the country. As we turned onto a dirt road we saw headlights pull up quickly behind us and it didn't take long until the cherries and berries flipped on and we were getting pulled over. The officer approached the window and said he pulled us over for 'a license plate light out'. In all actuality I'm sure he was wondering why 3 guys in a truck with out of state tags were cruising the back roads of NC at midnight. Well our neighbor that was with us had a gun on him, so we alerted the officer about it and handed it to him for safekeeping during our interaction, he was surprisingly cool with it. Well eventually the question came,
"Why are you guys out here at this hour?".
Being lost, we told him the truth that we were going to the meat packing plant. His response,
"That's private property, you can't go there, if you do, you'll be coming with me to the station tonight on a trespassing charge."
After that, he took our ID's and the gun to his car to check everything. A few minutes later he came back up to the window, passing the gun and our ID's back to us.
"Look, if you guys are going to the plant-", he started telling us, us three in unison told him we weren't and we would head back. And then he started again,
"If you guys are going to the plant, I'll let you go. You obviously aren't up to any trouble, you told me about the gun and what you were doing. It's alright. Now do you know how you get there?"
At this we were almost speechless as we handed him our directions. He told us this was way off and that if we followed him he would show us where it was at. And we did just that, followed him for about 5 miles until we pulled up to a path through the woods at the end of a gravel road. We parked, got out to thank him, and his parting words were.
"When you walk down that path your balls better be clankin' cause when I was young we would go there, and that place is scary. Make sure you have your gun on your when you go in, you don't know what type of people will be there at this hour and if you run into any trouble call 911 and I'll be right out."
After that, we thanked him and he left.
Best cop ever.
Unfortunately that night we didn't make it in, as we approached we saw a fire burning in the building and figured it was squatters or something and it would be better to not press our luck and return later, which we did the next day, pictures below.

TLDR; We got pulled over on our way to an abandonment, cop ended up letting us go, showing us where it was, and told us to go in armed.

So have any of you had any positive encounters with law enforcement/security/property owners like this? Like that go above and beyond just being let go?1.

A friend and I chatted with the security guard at the Swanbourne mental hospital for almost an hour. It was about 2:30 AM and honestly I think she was just happy to have someone to talk to. She told us all about the history of the place and the various ghost stories she'd heard. Wouldn't let us in for a look though. I'd seen the place years before but my friend had never been in.

The place has been renovated and turned into an aged care facility since, which is nice.

Not my pic, but from the ABC news website.

Never had any experiences with actual SECURITY, but I HAVE had Security call the police on me. I was standing on the edge of a bridge because a passing motorist thought I was going to jump. But when he showed up and checked my bags and things, he knew that I was just taking photos of the factory because, quote, "Jumpers don't normally pack a lunch" He told me about the factory and warned me about some collapses in it and a local hobo that wasn't too keen on visitors. I nodded and let him know about several more collapses. Then he drove away.

a year later I was taking photos of an another abandoned factory from some train tracks nearby. There was a power station being build on the edge of the property and I later learned from the police that there had been bomb threats to the building. The police drove up and asked me to come down, so I did. He got out of his car, and I waved to him because it was the same guy. He smiled at me, told the security guard I was "harmless", then released me and he drove away after taking my info.

Now adays, I'm more scared of the drug dealers and scrappers than the popo.

Positive experiences? Well if hiding and watching them look around for you for 30 minutes is positive Ive had 6 or 7 experiences like that.

I did meet one f.t.f at the foundry in Marshall Texas, he was primarily concerned about my safety and warned me about all the dope heads and dangerous pits to fall in around there. Nice guy.

One morning in Gary we got rolled twice in a row.

First time was at a school on the west side, neighborhood was a bit watchful and called us in. Gary Police Reserve/Carl J. Winslow's doppelganger rolls up as we're walking around outside, still. Apparently we were his first photogs because it took about 5-10 minutes for him to understand we were harmless. He then tells us we should check out the beach on the other side of town, which had just had a historic bathhouse restored, and accidentally gave us a legit police escort halfway there because he forgot to turn his lights off (therefore turning all the stoplights green for us). He wasn't wrong in that it wasn't a bad photo spot...

Later in the day we went to this bombed-out paintball arena in an old grocery store. Cop shows up in five minutes, comes inside wit his gun drawn and starts calling out for us. We approach, I flash my camera screen and he cools down right away. Turns out his wife is a photog, so he starts listing all the Gary spots that we had already been to. Also started ranting about how the Gary PD is in a half-abandoned hospital.

Didn't said hospital catch on fire a couple years back? Must've been quite the time for the department.

Oh yeah, and there was another time I was in the old Johnson Motors factory, way north of Chicago, and cops came in looking for these kids who thought hitting the place in broad daylight, with the busiest beach in the county directly across the street, on a hot-as-balls Sunday morning was a good idea (I pre-dawned it)... so of course somebody saw them. They found me first. Turned out my friend - the PR guy for the city - was with them playing beach ranger for the day, so when they eventually caught who they were looking for, finding me first meant nobody was getting arrested.

I later met those kids and we trade exploring spots once in a while.

I haven't heard of that - last year there was, however, a major fire at a school nearby.

I'm planning on going to Gary soon, hoping not to get stopped, but if I do I hope it's by cops as half as cool as that lol

Looked at the pics before reading and knew that place right away, lol. I am surprised the cop helped you get out there, they used to be really strict about not letting people out there.

A security guard that pulled up on me gave me the number to the head office which eventually allowed me to take photos at an abandoned all
