Ikeshima is an old coal mining island in Nagasaki Prefecture, just like the more famous Gunkanjima. Unlike Gunkanjima, Ikeshima isn't completely abandoned. There is still about 150, mostly very old people living on the island. Back in it's prime there was around 8000 people living on this island. There's still a functioning school built for a 1000 kids that now only has 2 students.

While Gunkanjima has become super famous and is completely flooded with tourists now, Ikeshima remains almost completely obscure. Which makes it a super cool place to explore. Its so quiet and peaceful and the small amount of residents gardening in between all the massive abandoned buildings almost seem like ghosts.

Wow, I've never even once heard of this place. It's pretty crazy to see how well-known Gunkanjima has become, but for this island to still be so obscure by comparison is incredible to me.

Thanks for sharing the set! I'd kill to see some more interior shots from here, especially of the industrial buildings.

Hey thanks for the feedback everybody! Here is a few more pictures I took. I didn't really try to get inside of any of the buildings for some reason. You definitely could if you were feeling more adventurous. I was just kind of scared to because there was apparently a wild boar on the island that attacked someone a few days before I got there and people were trying to catch it.
