The summer of 2017, I made my third attempt into Six Flags. It was hot as hell, by the way. We made our way to the location and chose the front entrance as our PoE, and made it all the way to the booths before we saw it... The security guard.

(NOTE: We attempted to gain access the day before, approaching the entrance from the Michoud side. It was completely secure. I kinda plopped my head against the gate in defeat, and we hear an engine turn over from within the parking lot. A very old, yellow re-purposed cab emerged from the foliage within the parking lot, only to slink right back, in the most passive-aggressive show of authority I've ever seen. We opted to come back later.)

We spot the security guard in the same spot as yesterday. I chose to wait in lace for a while, evaluating my options. I felt like there was no use unless he moved. And since the dude has to stick around all day, he was bound to leave momentarily at any given time. We sat and waited for about 20 minutes, before he moved. He started driving slowly up to the entrance, made a loop around the front of the park and entered. We moved up along the sidewalk and behind the brush, until we reached a side-walk cutout possibly used for handicap vans or something of the like.

From here I notice a small group moving into the park on foot. I identified them... teenagers. I chose to hold my position again, and decided that this group would be my scapegoat. I waited for them to get past the entrance before we moved in. And we moved fast, gaining access through a staff entrance. We proceeded with caution, making our way to the log ride counter-clockwise of our position. We snap some shots here, and one of us spots the group we saw earlier making their way to us.

We start breaking down our tripods and moving to cover, evaluating our next move. Then BAM! Sonny Security comes wheeling around the corner like a bat outta hell right up into the group's face. "Oh, holy shit." He gets out of the vehicle and starts swinging his arm, yelling "Alright, ya'll get outta here! Let's go!" The group turns around and starts walking. The security guard drives at a crawl right behind them. Once his he was out of eye-shot we continued counter-clockwise along the park.

The rest of the tour was peaceful, despite our high tension. We were inside for 3 hours before we called it quits. We made our way out, still not having seen the security guard. We were almost out, taking the way that we used to get in. 20 damn feet away from the entrance, the security guard passes up the entrance. We booked ass onto the main street, where he had been approaching our front. He slows down and rolls his window down. Fortunately, we're all too used to this procedure and have all switched our memories cards out.

"Ya'll just came from in there huh?," Says him.

I approached him as the leader, "Nah, we're just taking pictures from the outside."

"I just saw ya'll in there."

"No, you didn't," I replied.

He crimps his mouth at me with side-eye stank face, "Aight"

And he sped off, pulling his phone out. We proceeded to book ass into a residential area where we had been parked. Now, if I had still been in the park, I would have been more truthful. But he wasn't getting shit outta me at that point. Not having been clear of the park by the time he found us. That was my impromptu attempt at social engineering, which I believe I may have approached the wrong way. If it had been a cop, I would have been more accommodating.

ANYWAY, that's my story about our diligent infiltration and a riveting experience with the security. I hope you guys enjoy what I brought ya.

I went here in the summer of '16 and the security car was looking straight at us and kept on driving. We left after this, but now that I have a lot more experience with security I would've stayed. Great set and I'm glad the place is still doable.

This place was featured on Viceland series, “Abandoned” featuring Rick McCRank. He explored this place thoroughly with friends. Great job by the way. A visit it now planned.

Loved your story! Made me smile I will never forget 2013. Thats when i went.
My. My, how different this place is now. Im surprised that the Security is still the same. I was like you, DETERMINED! I didnt drive 6 hours to get there and have nothing to show for it. Got caught, left, came back and got caught again because some stupid idiots were climbing up to the top of rides and waving their hands and shouting. On the second capture, they made us sign papers that we had been given warning and would never return. LOL. I cant recall whose name and address i used but it sure wasn't mine. Then he showed us the ponds and tried to scare us with horrid stories of man-eating gators. C'mon man, im not afraid of snakes and gators that are living in the swamp. Im not going for a swim! i said, Im just trying to peacefully take shots of the rides....Then, i will peacefully show you to the gate he said You WILL be ARRESTED next visit, he SHOUTED.

Thanks EVER so much for the trip down memory lane! Really enjoyed your pics! I don't think i have ever posted all my shots i got then, here are a few for comparison sake.

I was there the day the filmed it, it was the worst coincidence you could ever imagine. They had a little mazda 7 lined with all this camera gear. On our way out we talked to the producer, he was a nice canadian dude. Didn't get to talk to rick though, wish we were able to.

When I was researching places to see on my recent trip, this place came up. I was absolutely disappointed I wouldn't have the time to scope it out or explore it. It looks like an absolutely wicked place to spend a day (Assuming you get that) walking around snapping.

Massive props to you getting in there and getting all your amazing shots.

One day I got a good camera.

It's ridiculous how much they care. The fact they still believe its salvageable and that it wont be torn down is crazy. All of the roller coasters are in terrible condition and the only ones that were salvageable after katrina were sent to other six flags park. One is here in texas in san antonio!

There used to be, and that was for a very brief period. They've long been removed from the park to protect it's cinema value. I haven't seen any alligators in there in years.

If there were, they're hardly a threat unless you're in water. Seeing that parts of the park are always flooded, there are plenty of areas for them to nestle in. In a situation where they're a caution, especially here, you do as Professor Oak and Ajay said and avoid the high grass.

When I was walking in last year, we made a loud noise and i heard a super loud splash in the water. Either something fell in, or someone dived in.

Me too about the gators! I would love to see those shots!

I was here in March and I must say, our overall luck at this place was much better than I realized. In other words, it was smooooth sailing the entire time. We walked right in without any issues or even a visual on security. We were there the entire day and never saw another soul. When we first got there, I was slightly apprehensive that someone would be patrolling the inside of the park and sweep around a corner in a Ford pickup with one of those cheesy yellow lights flashing at any moment. Not only had I heard about this from some of you guys but it was obvious that the pathways were still used regularly. After an hour or so, I felt more relaxed and was able to enjoy myself more. In hindsight, I'm very surprised that no security showed up to do rounds that entire day. My theory is that the day shift guy got careless and lazy, lol. I started getting hungry around dusk, so myself and one other left after agreeing that our third friend would text us when she was ready to go. It was finally as she was actually leaving the park that she was spotted by security. Ironically, the guard seemed to think she had just arrived! She has freakishly good luck in these matters and this time was no different. He gave her some kind of verbal admonishment and she continued on her way to meet us at the car. No problems whatsoever.
Like I said, I think that we were extraordinarily lucky that day.

Such an awesome post with great photos. I don’t think we have anything of this scale in the Midwest but man would I love to explore a legitimate amusement park!

I know this thread is old, but I thought I'd just give a quick update for 2021. The short version: Six Flags is still there, still worth a visit, and still has security (but they are pretty easy to elude, just avoid moving around during their shift changes). In my humble opinion, the best time to get in is around dawn, before their dayshift switches over. They did rounds around eight or nine in the morning this last time, and we left right before the afternoon shift changed, so I would assume they did another round shortly after we left. These observations are current as of the beginning of this year.
