Maybe so, but you won't win friends here by stepping on toes. Some are very protective of their favorite shooting grounds even if they are trashed. Do your homework and shoot/post it. Name dropping is generally disliked here. No one here can predict what security will be like on a given day. Lots of times it's you who makes or breaks it.

If I want to visit a site the last thing I do was put up a public viewable post -before- I went to it. The internet spiders never sleep. There are up to dozens searching these pages at any given time.

Just when I thought I was out... they pulled me back in.

UPDATE: I visited with the help of some local intel last weekend. Not much has changed. Super easy to get in and avoid security. Every building is fucking trashed but what else is new? Still better than most of what we have here in CA.

PS - Thanks to local dudes who assisted!

I went for the first time late May with a buddy. It was overwhelming. I think my favorite parts of the campus are the church and the school bus.

decay is one thing. Vandalism and shitty graffiti is a whole different story.

Hey guys I'm new to the Urbex Community. Once I found out there was a community of people doing this type of thing, I was very intrigued.
Last week I went on my first Urbex expedition, and I went to Forest Haven at night. I did my research on the building, found the best to get into the facility, and my friend and I went. I would prefer to go during the day, especially it's my first time going, but I have a busy schedule and I was available that night. When we cut through the forest we found some random building, I don't know if it was part of the facility. But it was cool nonetheless. We also saw the hanging face mask from the previous explorers, super cool to see something like that. During our expedition, we ran into 3 other groups, and they were loud asf. I thought we were supposed to be sneaky in the facility. One group walked down the main road, kicked rocks, and played music while having their light on. I was so scared when I saw them from a distance because I thought they were guards. I wanted to explore 2 other buildings, but my friend got scared. He promised me we'll come back to explore the admin building and the church. I'll keep you guys updated on that.
But I think I'm addicted to that feeling I had while exploring the unknown. I think about that experience everyday ever since I left. I plan on exploring more, and just a heads up. I don't vandalize, I simple document and take photos. I hope maybe one day I'll be able to explore with some experienced explorers so that I can learn to be a better Urbex explorer.

PS... I apologize for the lack of pictures and the picture quality. I was lost in the experience, I used my iPhone, and it was at night. Promise I'll take better pics.

I recommend posting to flickr and sharing with the bbcode option. This has been the easiest in my experience.

Ahh Forrest haven, my first explore back in 09. You could just drive right up to all the buildings and no one said anything. Sucks it’s all destroyed from what you guys are saying.

Sorry to be a necromancer for this thread, but I was wondering if anyone's been here in the last six months or so...
I've done my research as far as parking and approach, all I need to do is make the 5 hour drive. My mindset is I know it's probably pretty close to 'hellhole' status, aware of the usual risks, and I like driving, so doing a long day trip doesn't bother me...but, all I want to know (I realize it's a subjective question) is: is it at all still worth it, or has this site gone completely to sh*t?
I'm thinking I'll do a Saturday here soon, I've got plenty of other closer explores, but these old asylums are my favorites; even the ones that are less than pristine (and this one sounds intriguing, but far below pristine).
Ayuh, sometimes dead is bettah...as Fred Gwynne once said, but I figured I'd ask before either driving into a crap explore, or not doing it and missing out on a worthy one. Thanks!

Ehh... I don't know if I'd drive five hours just for Forest Haven alone. It's got its highlights but nothing that really justifies that trip, however, there are a few other hospitals within an hour's drive of it that are worth seeing, so you might consider going to some of those in addition to Forest Haven, to make the journey worthwhile.

Thank you...yeah, I think just going for that one place is probably excessive; I've found a couple other nearby sites, though the research I've done makes them sound almost impossible without being busted (of course most of that info is rather outdated and possibly inaccurate or overblown).
Glad to hear at least that it's still worth a look, guess I'll do some more research on the area for other explores and do a weekend thing here in the next couple months. Thanks again for the advice!

I'm pretty sure I know the two you're talking about. They're both doable, you just have to be smart about it.

Been in this place many times, its in pretty bad shape now and also the detention center used to be abandoned as well, now used by a military camp. That place was amazing, still had power at the time until people figured out it was abandoned and destroyed everything.
