What's the temperature inside versus outside on a hot day? Do you know?

I see rebar. Looks like it may be built pretty solid. Unfortunately being abandoned as such will invariably mean it's doom

When its really hot, it use to stay about 15 degrees or so cooler...but now since so many of the bottles and windows have been bashed out its hard to tell.

Wonder why they didn't sell, or complete and live it or rent it. Poor property management...
TX vandals are quite the busy assholes

How thick are the walls at the base and 6,10 feet up?

Maybe you can get an idea from this door opening blackhawk...this was taken before most of the jars on the right hand side met up with idiot kids.
As for as renting it or putting it up for sale... It was never wired for electricity...has no running water and no bathrooms. The man used rainwater he collected in vats, and build an outhouse around back.

Oh, here that pic of the doorframe

...the man died unexpectedly, I believe, as well. He fell into a fire on the property. It's hermit living, and I doubt there are many folks who would reside in a hermit house, no matter how popular or how many publications there are about it.

Here's one of the ceilings:

I am sad to see those pictures, MisU...also knowing the bottles are being broken and it's literally falling apart.

If the construction was solid it could easy be wired and plumbed. Incorporating into a new structure as a den or such is also a possibility.

Structures that serve no useful purpose tend to not last unless efforts are taken to secure and protect them.
It's the nature of the American culture

I visited this place in September of last year and it showed signs of being vandalized. I even ran into the owner who threatened to call the cops (see p2 of this thread for my visit).

Of all the places I've been and seen, there was nothing like the experience of visiting this unique location. The guy who built it found a special place and built an incredible structure with his own hands under extremely difficult circumstances.

I'm an atheist, but this place is like standing on holy ground. There is an energy here that is completely unique. To see it in its current state is like watching the ruins of Palmyra come down. I consider this as a crime against humanity to deface this magnificent location.

It's not 'solid' though. It's built with aluminum cans...as I showed you in my picture. Hahaha.

Reading about the history and story of him and his house and how he functioned is definitely worth the time and reading.

Impossible to tell from the images how well its constructed. I know he used rebar which indicates a certain level of sophistication.

The aluminum can roof may be more clever than you realize; it's light weight and conducts heat. Ancient Romans made the roof of the Pantheon and dooms lighter by using not just thinner concrete but by reducing the density of it through careful selection of aggregates in it. It seems to be model after these domes.

Or he may have been completely nuts and a horrible architect

What a trip!! I LOVE LOVE LOVE #7... There's so much being told in that scene. Isn't it great when you FINALLY figure out where a place is that you've wanted to find??? I love it. Very well done, and GREAT find

My partner's late uncle built a place like this out in the northern Goldfields in Western Australia. This post reminded me that one day I'd like to take the 7 hour drive to check it out.

What an amazing find! And genius detective work on your part too.
