I took these photos in March of 2017, decided to post them now. Not sure why I didn't before. I'm uncertain about the future of this place. Hugh State Prison was the first prison ever closed in this states history. This location was historically very difficult to access because of security measures placed by the state. Recently, security has been very lax.

Great spot. Had my eyes on it since the article in the paper said it would close back in 2010. I wasn’t the first one in, but my first visit was March 2015. Been back a couple times since and it appears that everyone and their mom have been. More and more graffiti. Reckon I should go one more time before it’s gone.

Great shots.

When I went I think was about the time when things started to show up. It was pretty much untouched except for a little bit of graffiti. If you do decide on going, post some photos. I'm curious about how it looks now.

It is worth the trip. I had a great time photographing this one with Peptic back in March. That said, it would be slightly depressing to go back and see it again if it is getting trashed...

Here's my thread and peptic's thread from a year ago for comparison:

EDIT: Now that I'm rereading Pear's narrative, it would seem he took these around the same time we did, but I'll go ahead and leave the links.

We both went in March, but the front of the main structure has way more ivy in your shot. I’m guessing you went toward the end of the month (I don’t remember when I went in March, but I’m too lazy to look it up). Flora was something I had wished there was more of when I went there.

Random side note: Never in my life had I seen so much poison ivy concentrated on one tree. Some of those trees were more poison ivy than actual tree. I really hate that stuff.

Yes, we went later in march. There was a lot of it for sure. Did you guys go through the fields or just straight through the front? There was some cool stuff next to the creek.

I went with Peptic Ulcer predawn. His wife dropped us off at the front gate in the wee morning hours. With the lack of security and the cover of darkness, we had no trouble. By the way, I know someone that actually drove through the fields to get there shortly after my visit.

EDIT: @Pear, you mentioned some “cool stuff,” along the field route. Can you elaborate as to what kind of cool stuff? I’m curious because I’ve never heard it mentioned before.

*Sigh*
I still need to visit here. Keep waiting for a friend to free up to go with but our schedules have not lined up.

Prolly not as interesting as the place itself, but did anyone visit the old prison cemetery across the highway?
