I was driving around the other day when I spotted a house in the Historic District of my town that was boarded up. I came back a few days later with my camera and a buddy to check it out. While surveying the outside a lady walked past and gave us a questioning look. Like I normally do I struck up a conversation to deter suspicion.
As it turns out she is the head of the Historical Commission and was ecstatic that there were young people interested in the older buildings and their history. She invited us to her house (a beautiful Victorian style I think..) and told us the about the house and that there was a secret entrance to a cave bellow. She asked us to help with her cause of protecting the historical places (as property values are crazy high). I will be returning to inquire as how to help later this week. Maybe see if I can become a photographer for them.

This just goes to show even the most unlikely people might be they key to finding new places.

Sorry for the long text here are some pictures I took of the inside of the house. We haven't found the cave yet but think it's in a locked shed in the back.

Sometimes permission can lead you to the coolest finds. Awesome that you're communicating with her. I'd be so down to find that cave entrance.

Nice pictures as well. That old style is very distinct. They do not put that attention to detail in homes anymore.

Is that a trap door, or just a rug over a vent?

You miss 100% of the shots you don't take.

Super cool find. Historical buildings are demolished all the time here. I'm glad there are people to stand up for them, even if they can't speak.

Sadly it's just a vent. When we took it off there was insulation over what looks like an old heater. We were excited thinking it was a secret door.

That complex lattice structure at the top of the doorframe is beautiful! Hope you can get more access and find that cave!

There is a locked side shed that I am hoping to pick. There are 5 buildings on the property (all of which are unlocked or have gaping holes in -> Except one) The problem is that building is exposed to the street and would hate to get caught by an observant neighbor. I'm waiting for a rain storm to keep me hidden from sight. Unlock it then come back on a dry night with camera and gear. then do the same in reverse to lock back up
