High Court Injunctions and Youtube 'Explorers'

This may only be relevant in the UK but I think it's probably worth bringing to wider attention.

Over the last few months in the UK there has been a spate, or if you prefer, a cancerous growth of Youtube 'explorers' who either choose to completely sensationalise and twist the histories of locations or what happened on their explore to get more likes (OMG I NEARLY DIED/FOUND TANK/£10000000000000 MANSION etc) and these are bad and cringeworthy enough but there has been a far more serious issue bubbling under the surface which has just reared it's ugly head in the last few weeks.

There has been a small group of people who call themselves 'explorers' on Youtube who, for want of a better phrasing, have been acting like complete and utter twats, finding it funny being busted in quite serious locations and generally having no clue at all as to the consequences of their actions. This culminated a month or so ago in Chelsea FC (one of the UK's biggest 'soccer' teams for you Americans) slapping them with a High Court Injunction for breaking into their stadium and filming everything. However this injunction went one step further and explicitly bans ANY unknown person including the named defendants (the crew of idiots) from remaining in, or entering the stadium after a certain time of day. This means anyone entering the stadium who isn't supposed to be there is now liable to get absolutely butt-raped in the courts. This injunction sets a dangerous precedent for laws getting changed in the UK, and I bet many other business owners and large building owners are eyeing it up.

Ally Law is a named defendant in four such injunctions through a combination of his utter stupidity, lack of any idea of the consequences and pure contempt for everyone. Each injunction has incurred costs of around £45,000 each which him and his crew will have to pay for.

Details of two of the injunctions can be seen here, the other two have been brought by Lloyds Banking Group and City Football Group but they are in weird file formats that I can't link properly.

http://www.manutd....5DF68E089DC0D.ashx

More recently this dick who seemingly can't help being caught broke into a water park and was caught by police and it's just come out that he and one of his goons managed to get into the Celebrity Big Brother house by posing as workmen - this has been done before when the house wasn't being used but never when there has been a TV series being filmed live.

Ally Law and his crew of associated morons are probably the single biggest threat to exploring in the UK and their antics are setting dangerous precedents in the courts here. He may have finally bitten off more than he can chew though if the mounting court costs weren't enough.

-Think- before you slam the shutter release...if it seems like a bad idea, it probably is!

This philosophy has saved me from having a bunch of piss off cops try to throw the book at me more then once.

This not not just a UK problem. Plenty of YouTubers in America do this same thing and it drives me crazy. The respect they have for the places they are is so little and it makes me upset.

I've seen similar things on YouTube which is rather upsetting. There's one YouTuber that somebody here at UER recently called "famous" (with videos topping out at 17k views) that seems to do whatever he can to get caught, stretch the truth or do whatever he thinks it takes to get more views. It's really unfortunate that some people are more interested in money than respecting the urban exploration community.

They have no shame, all they care about is views and likes.

Recently one of the biggest turds was glorifying the murders of two women at an abandoned house he visited just for views, which is unforgiveable.

I can't believe they broke into the Chelsea stadium! Balls! And those clubs are worth millions and can afford to make examples out of these morons. I looked at a few of their videos and it strikes me more as something like the "Logan Paul" phenomenon vs legit explorers. In it for the "fame" and ultimately, with enough followers and action, the money.

The ramifications to this shit have been catastrophic for spots in the Gary/Chicago area. Lincoln Mall, perfect example... days after the Cleveland janitor was in town vs. a couple months of media and YouTube whoring, later...

On another note, I understand that the criteria for obtaining partnership has changed meaning people with smaller channels have to try even harder for views in an order to get 4,000 weekly viewing hours. I'm not sure if it will discourage this behavior or promote even more of it.

These idiots need to be put in their place. Hopefully the fines should stop them from doing any more"exploring", though I wouldn't be surprised if they kept their current path until they ruin more locations and end up in jail.

Man, I saw the video too a week ago. They played inspirational music as they were doing parkour in the stadium. I think the care free attitude has finally caught up with them though. Sad to see these laws being put in place, but all it takes is one idiot to ruin it for everyone.

It's rumored and probably true that the Janitor goes on meth fueled rampages for days on end.

It's not just the UK, trust me. It's Canada, the USA, I'm pretty sure it's everywhere. Social media has ruined this hobby. Everything is all about the "likes" and the "views" rather than actual respect for history and locations.

I heard 1000 subscriber minimum and 4000 viewing hours in 12 months which averages out to just shy of 11 hours of viewing per day.

So anyone that wants to stay in the game or just get in the game, is going to have get more creative.

Plagiarism is rampant on YouTube. It seems there are a lot of people downloading and flipping* existing videos and racking up 100,000+ views.

*Flipping is taking a video and flipping the picture 180 degrees horizontally to evade the anti-plagarism algorithms while keeping the action basically the same.

Oh yes the Youtube fad is everywhere.

The shit has really hit the fan in the UK though with the antics of this 'Ally Law' and his crew of imbeciles. The injunctions put in place barring not just them but any 'unknown' person from remaining in a location after a certain time must be looking very attractive to developers building new high-rise buildings or public venues. It may not affect me so much as I don't personally enjoy rooftops and stuff like that but it's one step closer to getting laws in the UK changed in regards to trespass etc.

What will change the laws are the fact these fucktards are doing recon for terrorists.
Now ISIS, etc perverts need only look at these vids to scout targets.
ISIS wuvs to jack off on the web... prolly where half their subscribers and likes are coming from.

Oh my... I shouldn't have said that. Too late.

As someone that does enjoy following >certain< people on YouTube this doesn't apply to most. Now you do have plenty *coughmoesargicough* that do this clickbait stuff and show little respect.

My daughter asked me about following Jake Paul the week before his bullshit and instantly blocked his channel and such from her tablet.

I wonder if there'd be a way to promote the better YouTube videographers that approach this stuff with a very UER style attitude and get them better known than the "OOOOMMMGGG BODY FOUND" ridiculousness.

There isn't.

Youtube loves commercial people, UER is not commercial. But I have a lot more respect for UER than certain Youtube "explorers".

There are good and popular explorers that do it right most of the time, however lies and excitement sells.

I'm not sure what did it, but YouTube has gone off the deep end as of late. Looking at trending videos related to any kind of hobby (in my case urbex and metal detecting) results in a greater health risk than all the asbestos in the world. Click-bait, compilations, top tens, and other forms of garbage have taken over. The only way to find something worthwhile is to have a real person refer you to it, rather than one of YouTube's worthless algorithms. My only guess is that sensationalists like Pewdiepie, the Pauls, etc are responsible.
