Year in Review, 2017

2017 was overall a pretty good year. I got a lot of exploring in, where I saw significantly more "bucket list" locations than in any previous year. I've also made a lot of changes to my life which have helped me move past a lot of the things that made 2016 so miserable. I did wind up doing something stupid, and lost someone who I considered to be my best friend a few months ago. With that, I lost a lot of my interest in exploring. I have been meeting some awesome new people though, in addition the very few but very good friends I'm fortunate to still have. So maybe 2018 will be decent as well. Here is one photo from most of what I went to this year, broken up by building type. I don't take many photos these days, so some of these are cell phone shots.

Thanks buddy! And for sure dude. That spot is definitely in my top 5 places of the year. Nice work digging that one up. I'm sure by springtime I'll have some more goodness to visit with you.

Thanks for the kind words! The large images were unintentional, but reposting 150 images seemed too daunting for me haha.

Ha, thanks dude. Definitely a busy year. Glad we were able to get together in 2017. Can't wait to see some of what you're going to post in 2018.

Thanks bud, I really appreciate it. Since I finally got a decent car of my own I've been getting out much further and more frequently than I have in the past. I've had some of these places on various lists and maps since before I was even on this site, so it was cool to finally get to see them in person. I'm absolutely looking forward to more opportunities to get together in 2018. I'll keep you in the loop. Thanks again for showing me around when I was out that way. That was one of my favorite trips out of all of these.

As always, excellent work and locations man. I say this every fucking year...but we really need to get together sometime, whether in my area or yours. You have been and remain to be one of my favourites to follow here and elsewhere.

Keep your head up and keep exploring my man!

Damn, how do you have any time to do anything with your life but explore? Way too many show stopper to name, and such an excellent variety of sites. Shame about all of the demolitions, though. Even though I know I'll never get to see even a fraction of these places, it's a bummer to see the ones that are gone for good.

Thanks so much dude! We absolutely should get together this year. If you make it down my way definitely let me know in advance. Jersey, Philly, New England, wherever. It means a lot that I'm one of your favorite follows, especially since you're so much more active in the community. I'll never lose my fondness for architecture so I'm sure I'll continue to get out. Now it's just more about the people and the experience than getting a bunch of photos.

Well I work 55 hours a week, 70+ through December, so that takes up much more of my time than anything believe it or not. But outside of working and sleeping, this year mostly revolved around hanging out in places. The weekends brought new spots, and on weeknights we would usually end up hanging out in some random abandoned hospital complex or on a rooftop in a nearby city. 36, 39, 42, and 105 were all pretty regular places we would kill time at. Between those 4 places there were probably upwards of 100 visits I didn't bring my camera for. But like I said above, these days it's more about the memories than the photos.

For exploring it absolutely was. This year is off to a slow start. I've only made it to a little over a dozen new places so far. But we will see what the spring brings. Hopefully we can get together again soon.

Thanks! Active theaters around these parts are few and far between, especially when talking about historic venues. But if I go across the river to NYC I have plenty to choose from. There are also still tons of empty or partially empty ones I haven't been inside yet. I'll definitely let ya know if I'm up that way. And yeah, that's slower than last year. But I'm up to 18 now, so if things continue I should have a decent year end thread for 2018 as well.
