Very slowly becoming indoor parking for cruise passengers? Article says it was supposed to be done by June, which isn't true.

I was in town and did a late night drive-by during the rather odd bout of wintry precipitation that came to visit the gulf coast last week.
The first thing I noticed were what I assume were security guards. They were sitting in private vehicles and did not appear uniformed. One had a passenger and both were parked behind the property gates on opposite sides of the property. I cannot say for sure, but I strongly suspected they were there in conjunction with one of the four or five cruise liners that were docked in the area.
The building itself looked the same as it did when I was there two years ago, but there was a ton of supplies and assorted objects that I assume were related to the ongoing construction over there in front of the property. It was dark, so I couldn’t tell if it was recently put there or not.
I can only give my opinion here since I didn’t attempt to enter the site, but I felt like it was certainly doable if you did it right. These guards seemed like they were just warm bodies hired on as a obligatory measure to keep the would-be car thrives at bay with their presence - not your uniformed, armed, actively patrolling, or well-trained variety.
Basically, they did not seem interested in moving from their positions in the least. There are plenty of dark corners to blend into around that place....

Was involved with some of the paperwork for the place and can shed (some) light on the current progress. For the longest time they were waiting for the state to approve historic tax credits for the development but due to the nature of the brewery's construction spanning many years there were some disagreements with what 'period' they would take the restoration back to.

The building on the eastern side they recently took down had some incredible brick details, as do other sections of the site, but during the modern 50's and 60's they skim coated stucco/plastered over these intricate areas to make smooth and clean surfaces. I've been out of the loop for a little while but it seems they have settled on what they are going to be able to tear down & what they are going to have to restore in order to receive said future tax credits. The Texas Historical Commission is a tough cookie to work with in most cases, very strict on what guidelines they have to match/restore back to... never mind that a lot of their rules are ~20 years old... (this was almost always my issue as I would see their inflexibility with current market financial obligations be the cause of buildings being passed over by developers and subsequently torn down)

So so so down. This is at the top of my list of places to explore at the moment.

You haven't been here yet, Indo? I must say, I'm slightly stunned, lol.

I sort of explored this place... It wasn't even light outside yet and I suddenly found myself hemmed in by workers. They were everywhere. I hid in some foul-smelling top floor room staring at a decaying rodent and listening to those aforementioned workers chat it up for at least thirty minutes. The echoes from all of the concrete made getting out of there unseen very stressful. I finally managed to find a way out, but to get to it I had to get past two of those workers. Their backs were turned, so I made a run for it. I expected yelling to follow, but I don't think they ever even heard or saw me. I didn't stick around to find out though. I ran all the way to an open window and kept running, jumped out of the damn building full speed, tripod still extended, hit the parking lot running and didn't slow down or look back until I was half a block down the street. All of that nonsense made for a semi-interesting story but that whole experience ruined the chance to properly explore the place! It's definitely time to go back.
