Trip Planning

So my Saturday has freed up, and the weather is going to be perfect for me to go exploring. Usually I just pick a direction and go, but sometimes I like to look ahead and pick some spots out.

So I have spent like a day and a half worth of time at work devoted to planning a route. A new direction for me. Downside is that I had 27 locations to visit in the approximately 10? hours of usable light, and it would have taken two days, I can only commit one day.

I think sometimes though I enjoy the planning of the trip almost as much as the trip. Usually I just use google earth, this time I used a website that allowed me to drop "pins" at my locations, and would easily route between them. Each pin, or stop has an editable feature to it that allows you to put in the estimated time you will spend there. I think that is awesome. This is what made me realize I needed to cut some locations. So now I have 15 spots to visit, and trimmed about 85 miles from the trip.

So yeah, I do recommend this site right here ----> Click

The only downside is my buddy that I usually take these longer trips with is unavailable. Some of these places I would like to have a friend with me. Who is down for a road trip!

I have a collaborative map on Google Maps with a few people that we drop pins and label what we see. It has become really useful during our Toronto UER meets, since one of us can pull up the map and we can negotiate where we want to go.

I find I decide where I want to go based on what I feel like doing when I have time to go out. Do I want to put in effort to get inside? Do I want the guarantee that I will even get inside? Do I want to check and scope out a place I've never been to before? That's what comes to mind when I decide where to go, and based on that, I can hit up my map and choose a place.

You miss 100% of the shots you don't take.

That's pretty smart. I've got a map of about ~900 spots across America. A lot of this has been kindly given to me by other members.

I've been hoping something like this existed, thank you!! I'm currently planning a cross country urbex trip for this next summer, so this site will be invaluable.

I do so many UE road trips that usually last multiple days and have tons of locations on them and I always have to print off crappy road maps online and attempt to pin point where the location might be and draw out routes and stuff so this makes my whole day!!

Totally agree, planning is half the fun of the trip!
