This past weekend I teamed up with two friends to go exploring pretty close by. It was one of those trips where you don't really have a concrete plan, but play it by ear.

Our first stop was at an active quarry. There was an interesting mix of old, rusty machinery and newer, refined ones. It also gave me the opportunity to use my new fisheye for the first time, which was very satisfying.

Once the sun had set, we headed one town over to check out an abandoned train tunnel. It clearly was a commonly explored place, as it was right off a main road and we even encountered some others in our short time there. Nonetheless, it was pretty cool.

It was very tall and graffiti lined the walls throughout. About halfway through, the smooth finished walls gave way to coarse, uneven rock that made it look like a cave (it was basically the same except there apparently was no smoothing out after the rock was blasted during excavation). I suspected that it was a work in progress and was then abandoned, but after some brief research it turns out it was actually used in that condition during the early 1900's. Rumor has it a dead girl was found in the tunnel some 40 years back.

We were pressed for time and didn't have more than weak flashlights for lighting, so we decided to do some light painting. It was my first time trying it and I'm still loving the results. Here are some shots from the second leg of the trip:

This reminds me I need to revisit one of our quarrys down south.

Quarries are cool, such a pity i have explored very few of these kind of places.

Huh, I drive by a similar small quarry quite often but have never even though about exploring it. MIght have to some time after seeing those pics. The old rusty machines are particularly cool

Cool series! I'm a huge fan of not really having a plan when deciding to head out. Whatever happens, happens. Usually turns out to be fun as hell. We have a quite a few Quarry's on the outskirts of town that I plan on hitting up.

Solid pics, your angles are really interesting. A lot of those sloping catwalks remind me of a bando facility right by my house; tons of fun. Also that light painting is really clean.
