Just how exactly does rooftopping fit in to UE?

Hey guys, I'm quite new to UE, rooftopping, and UER, so I just wanted to see how the more experienced members feel about this. Although I would love to do both, my personal preference between exploring abandoned areas and the like or rooftopping would probably be more so rooftopping. This is probably because I live in a generally well-looked after area, so not many places are allowed to just sit and rot, so there are more opportunities to climb newer buildings, as far as I am aware. Also, it is probably because I am scared of heights, which adds to the excitement and adrenaline, but I digress. I absolutely love rooftopping but I don't want to make that the focus of all of my posts if that it something that isn't necessarily encompassed in the term "Urban Exploration", or accepted as relevant by the members.

From a personal standpoint, and as someone who got their start in UE going rooftopping, I think it totally fits in. The name "Urban Exploration" is honestly a fairly vague term, so I think it can encompass a variety of exploration.

I'd totally consider rooftopping urbex.
correct me if I'm wrong, but I think that the reason that the community is so centered on exploring abandoned sites is just because that's often the most popular and accessible form of urbex. abandoned area exploration, rooftopping, draining, and active site infiltration are all discussed here.

This it the way I always thought of it

4 categories:

Places you aren't allowed:
Roofing
Buildings like schools offices and churches
Tunnels under these buildings

Abandoned stuff:
Abandonments
Forgotten abandoned buildings

Draining:
Storm drains
Creeks

And Climbing:
Cranes
Radio towers
Construction

If there is something I want to do then Ill do it and if there is something I don't want to do than I wont do it. That's the Dandy way baby.

Going to any man made place that is off-limits to the general public is typically considered urban exploration.

We could keep adding to that list forever. The most blatant things missing that I've explored are overpasses and bridges.

Anyway, rooftopping has become its own beast lately because young Instagrammers have found the most instant gratification doing that. Probably a majority of people calling themselves rooftoppers these days don't consider themselves urban explorers and may not know what it means. I went to a rooftopping meetup a few years ago and everyone was like "That's the weird guy who illegally goes in abandoned buildings."

I think rooftopping sits above a lot of what we explore.

Because they're not weird guys that illegally go onto rooftops, right?

Rooftopping totally counts too IMO.

As well as accessibility, abandoned buildings will offer some of the most extensive and varied photo sets, and this site is full of photographers, so that could explain their popularity.

From Access All Areas by Ninjalicious:

“So, what is and isn't urban exploration? Speaking broadly, urban exploration consists of seeking out, visiting and documenting interesting
human-made spaces, most typically abandoned buildings, construction sites, active buildings, stormwater drains, utility tunnels and transit tunnels, though with lots of other possibilities on top of those basics. The areas explorers are interested in are usually neglected by or off-limits to the general public, though there are some exceptions to this, and it's certainly not the case that urban exploration always involves trespassing.

Explorers flock to opportunities to see interesting buildings and tunnels that are temporarily opened to the public, and most are quick to take
advantage of chances to visit special areas with permission from friends and relatives. Explorers are also quick to take advantage of legal grey areas, such as touring stormwater drains which in certain municipalities isn't technically illegal. So, exploring isn't synonymous with recreational trespassing.”
