Filming location, meat factory and vintage stuff from USSR < on 11/7/2017 9:21 PM > | Reply with Quote
Hello, explorers. This will be a mashup from this year explorations. I discovered a lot of exciting places, passing by and researching maps but had very little time to actually visit these locations. Also i have a temporary dream job now - sort black&white photos in a museum (so i see a lot of places i've explored in my life) so the urge for exploring outside reduces from 90% to 10%
This is location where a movie called "Pelnu sanatorija" aka "Exiled" was filmed http://www.imdb.com/title/tt4261942/ Its old abandoned manor in countryside. Turns out the spot is very popular because when i arrived there, there were already some explorers inside and then other two groups of explorers arrived. whoa. Sunday funday...
some insides. Well i was hoping to see some stuff left from filming the movie. Some decorations and stuff like that. AHHHH those germans, they didn't left anything. Pedants.
There was also abandoned laboratory in basement. Luckily it was still cold outside so the reak of chemicals wasn't that bad than in summertime. Still i couldn't hang around there for long, those smells are making me dizzy.
One wealthy russian ivestor bought this place some time ago. And he doesn't do there anything. I might say "russian investor is not an ivestor. It just invests extra time for explorers to see more places before they get demolished forever".
*** Now some vintage stuff. Finally i noticed there was this huge flea-market that happens twice in a year. There are bunch of people from four or even more different countries, trying to sell vintage things. That was an adventure because it was raining heavily that day and all the 'trading area' was a huge pond of water and mud.
and old beer barrel. There's also a sign of one of the most famous but cheap beer brands "Lacplesis". It was created already in Soviet times, in a ambitious kolkhoz.
***************** at the end some random extra pictures, taken this year:
Each year i have a tradition to visit one city far-away, its called Daugavpils. The city is very different and just krazy. I was exploring this half-abandoned factory and realized that there is a HORSE living inside one of these buildings.
30 minutes later i saw the owner and turned out the horse is actually moving around people in the city. Its a popular tourist attraction out there but i guess nobody cares where the horse comes from. I did some research in local newspapers and the only information i got is that drivers sometiems argue with that horse-ownner because he is riding horse also on the road where are intensive traffic. However, this was the first time wheni discovered some farm animals inside half-abandoned building.
in Daugavpils city there is also one exciting place, very old lead (plumbum) bullet factory.
inside lead (plumbum) bullet factory that works partly as a museum, too. Very cool place but it was scary when i got out from the building i could taste in my mouth some lead dust particles. Lead (plumbum) is toxic and dangerous to human health, no wonder why nowadays people out there produces bullets only twice a year.

Looks like a really cool place! Those B&W's are killer. And I couldn't agree more, summer this year was way too quick. I wish I had gotten into urbex just a few months earlier so I could've done a lot of exploring over the summer.
U got a couple duplicate pics in there at the end I think btw

Looks like great fun How did you manage to stir up so much lead dust? I worked with lead for 35 years and never can say I tasted it. Burnt or sanded lead paint has a typical sort of almond smell. Not to worry; you have to ingest a fairly good quantity to get lead poisoning normally. The lead gas additive is particularly dangerous as it goes straight through the skin.
Just when I thought I was out... they pulled me back in.

The guide inside factory turned in some kind of a machine with ventilation. I guess the dust came out from there. Tho it was small amount of dust, the strong taste of metal in my mouth didn't fade away for 15 minutes. They make lead pellets in old fashioned way and with questionable safety measures, by throwing them from 9th level of the building and it crashes in a deep well in a basement level. Ohhh, yaaasss, they have video with English subtitles, with all the process:

Kabbalah is an undramatic tradition that requires great patience and stability. One of the reasons for this tempo is that everyone has to mature his potential gradually and thoroughly at his natural pace. In this way his life's work unfolds at the right moment in his own and the cosmos's time. Z.B.S. Halevi -- Kabbalah

I truly love the quality and lighting of the photos along with the descriptions you've provided for them. Not only am I seeing what you've seen, but I feel like I'm living it. Awesome work, keep it up!
