| | | Hey Gang, The Company is sending me to Alpharetta for about a week in early January. I don't know how much free time I'll have, and I'm travelling with several co-workers from MN, so I'm unlikely to be able to travel far. I'm trying to find something fun to spend a couple hours on in or around Alpharetta, but it looks like something of an exploring dead zone. Any tips where I should be looking? Looks like there's tons of new construction everywhere, but not much for old dilapidated shit. Google Maps is showing me a few potential drain outfalls and overflow structures, but nothing that looks especially promising. Given that, I'm HOPING to find a way to Atlanta for at least a little while, that looks like it has a lot more potential, but is going to be harder to get to with work stuff. Any tips? Any locals? Given how things look, I'm happy to consider non-exploring entertainment, if there is any...

| | | Posted by Ducit lumine Hey Bud! Welcome to Atlanta! If your just looking for a couple quick picks close to downtown, I have a couple in mind. Alonzo Herndon Stadium - An abandoned Olympic stadium from the 1996 Atlanta olympics. Pullman yard - An abandoned train yard that has been frequently used in our cities busting movie industry. Still has many cool features including train cars. Near the Old 4th ward district. A very happening neighborhood that is good for drinks and entertainment before or after you explore. I live in the neighborhood and love it dearly. Theres also a church on auburn ave. near the market thats been boarded up for a while now and ive been looking to check it out. Ive been out of the hobby for a while and getting back in. Let me know if you make a trip out to either one, or would like a local guide!
| Quick tip re. Pullman yard - DONT DO IT. The police have vowed to arrest everyone who trespasses. A kid died there not too long ago and it was all over the papers. I would strongly advise you NOT to go there. Alpharetta is a very new northern suburb of ATL. YOu won't find anything there, you will have to go to the industrial section of Marietta (to the south west of Alpharetta) or go to SW Atlanta - and that place is a treasure trove, but very very dangerous. Be careful if you go there. Unfortunately, north Atlanta is where I live and where it is very nice and clean. Great place to live, terrible place to explore. You will be better off going downtown and see what you can see in SW Atlanta. There is a ton down there, but again, be very very careful.
