Duw Cariad Yw - Welsh for God is Love...

People living in England sometimes forget that the other countries which make up the United Kingdom all have their own languages other than English. In Scotland and Northern Ireland it's very much a minority language as the vast majority speak English, however in Wales a large proportion of the population are still native Welsh speakers alongside English. So much so that road signs, road markings and many other things are dual-language in order to cater for them.

Wales is absolutely littered with abandoned chapels of all shapes and sizes. Some big and grand and imposing, others tiny rural chapels that would have served a very small congregation. These two fall into the latter bracket, with the second one being the smallest location I have personally ever photographed.

These were likely private chapels to serve the few local farms/houses in the respective areas, so they would never have had a congregation larger than a couple of dozen at an absolute maximum. Both have been empty a long time, and both are in beautiful states of decay although the majority of the pews have been removed from the smaller of the two.

This is great. I love Wales and was there last year in the northern areas. I've actually marked off a lot of these abandoned chapels on my map and was planning on seeing a few next time around. Your photos make it clear that trip would be great idea. Very nice locations!

Oh wow, I would be in my absolute glory to be able to explore such numerous chapels. That second one is awe-inspiring. My imagination runs wild thinking about such a tiny congregation celebrating together in such close confines. It must really have been something. Thanks for this extremely unique and very enjoyable look.

These are both beautiful, especially the second chapel. It's colorful and full of little things to notice despite being so small. Are there any more shots of it?

I'd imagine the organ is the same age as the chapel, maybe earlier - although finding dates for the tiny ones out in the middle of nowhere can be tricky.

Pretty much every village and town has an abandoned chapel somewhere - the trouble is a lot are in very close proximity to neighbouring houses/properties so are difficult to get into without being seen, if they are accessible that is ha. If you want to add any more to your list or want pointers on some, message me ;)

Only got a handful in that tiny one, sadly - with my wide angle it was difficult to even get 'wide shots' of it as it was so small!

These are well-shot views of some beautiful little places, very much the kind of old, small, untouched abandonment that I wish we had more of in the States. Thanks for posting these!
