My parents won't let me out past dark at all really, so my only option is to climb on a day with a good excuse of to be out until 10PM. Things will change in University...

Meh, timing is everything.
Maybe best to wait... college is the time.

If you insist on not waiting for University and climbing in the daytime, do this on a major holiday, or at the very least, a Sunday.
Just understand you are taking a much greater risk.
That said, it's certainly doable.

The OP needs to carefully consider the consequences of a botched climb.
Getting busted is not fun or cheap.
Doing anything that makes this more likely is a rush if you pull it off or a real pain in the ass if you get popped.
If the OP intends on ever going into the military getting busted could compromise this.
They will see any arrest even if there's no conviction; you'll need to disclose it.
Same for federal jobs or if you ever want a $ecurity clearance
Consider the hassle of having to disclose an arrest record when applying for a job.

In the digital age it's not forgotten nor seldom lost and is easily accessible even to civilian employers. The DOD sees -everything- even police complaints where no charges were filed.

The hell I raised as a kid and got away with would screw me up completely if I did it now.
Better to do your "homework" then to be sorry...

I found a site with seemingly no security (cameras, guards, etc). The only thing I am worried about is that there is a siren-looking thing near at least one door of the site. I also spotted a similar contraption on another site, does anybody know what it does? Also, on another site, there is a sign telling workers to wear a 'designator' which could mean a vest for visibility or an RFID badge of sorts.

RF badge not needed; your not using the gate.
Sometimes a bullhorn is just a bullhorn.
Don't fall. That's what really matters.

If you're scared of getting in trouble by your parents, imagine how scared you'll be when you get caught by the police.

I’ve been caught by both.
Cops are way worse.

Real question?

For one thing when was the last time your mommy and daddy charged you with a criminal offense, requiring you to appear in court?

Yep. Your parents won't use trained dogs to track you down, or force you to pay hundreds if not thousands of dollars for getting caught, or put things on your record that could affect future employment opportunities.

It's just that every time I have been caught doing something stupid, they've just had a conversation with me/let me go. Maybe I've just been very lucky. Anyways, thanks for the great replies so far.

Cops are pushovers and my parents are on another continent. I'm worried about what teachers would do if they catch me.

You ever fall really hard?
So hard you couldn't breathe even one breath for over a minute?
Many people who die from falls don't die instantly.
You get one shot.

Interesting little falling trivia I heard is that often the difference between going splat or going thud at great heights is whether or not you wear a belt. I have no idea if it's true or not, and don't get me wrong, you're dead either way, but it makes a difference for the cleaners. I assume they prefer corpses over soup.

Doubt a belt makes any difference.
Your heart is heavy with blood and if you pull enough G's from blunt impact it can rip at the aorta or simply go into arrest.
The brain and heart are two weak links in high G impacts. Otherwise death is caused by multiple impact injuries; this can be painful and slower than one would want.

I remember a girl that committed suicide by jumping 3 stories onto concrete. She landed feet first.
She shattered her feet and legs.
Took her 30 minutes to die; mortally wounded, and conscious most of that time.
EMTs couldn't stabilize her, DOA.

Don't fall. Past 3 stories of free fall you're playing with enough energy to shatter major bones. See BlackHawk's anecdote of the suicidal young woman - Break the big bones, big problem.

Don't climb the night after a local explorer insists on a facebook group that his cranetop photos of new construction are real not photoshopped.

Metal-bearing grease will not wash out.

Oil-resistant soles help some with grease or water, not both. Never climb in rain, fog, or storms. As moody as cloud-whipped skies look in sick long exposures, the crane wobbles too much and lightning is made safe for the driver in the cab, not a fool on the boom.

Stay in the caged ladder and railed platforms. They are designed and checked for walking. Booms aren't.

Don't climb truss cranes ( monkey bar style climbing). The Dubai and Russia tower videos are not for you. Yet.

Take your time in the approach. If you can't, you might take your time waiting on bail money.

Police in America can find you on a crane and without pressing any legal charges hold you in a psychiatric ward or ER (with medical treatment) as "a danger to self." Be polite if busted.

In Florida it's a felony to trespass in a construction site. Check local laws for surprises like that.

After criminal charges the construction company may sue you for costs, expenses, and raising their insurance rates.

Don't climb with these: lighter, spray paint, markers, knife, handgun, taser, weed, or mace.

Thanks for all your valuable advice. I have finally overcome my fear of getting arrested and climbed a few cranes. Here is what I have to add:

1. Pack light (as Steed mentioned) and use some backpack that does not 'fatten' your body. I use a small Mountain Warehouse 10L bag which is enough to carry a camera (with extra lens), first aid, change of clothes, and potentially a drone if I sacrifice everything but the camera. Also, the less you pack, the less you can forget. There's nothing worse than thinking you left something you cared about on the crane knowing that the cops are on their way and you won't get it back.

2. Scope the site many times, take pictures if possible so you can keep looking after the fact. Make sure you know where any cameras are so you expose yourself as little as possible. From my experience, I have never run into motion sensors and the like and I don't think the cameras alert people when motion is detected but you never know. It is also wise to keep your face covered so it will be harder to positively connect your face to other incidents.

3. The last thing I do but is not necessary is having someone off site listening to a police scanner and security if they are relevant. This has saved my record once and I intend to keep doing it. I recommend not carrying a police scanner on your person as it would prove intent of trespassing knowing that you were breaking the law. It is better to be caught with some generic cheap radio and pull the 'I'm stupid card stating that you wanted to hear security if they said anything.

4. Finally, whatever happens don't run because it will generally only make things worse (unless you get away). In fact, cops were aware of one of my climbs and chose to simply watch without intervening since we did not damage anything. Running away after getting tipped off by a scanner is not illegal.

Thanks again for your help.

I just wanted to add something about police scanners. My iPhone is my scanner and unless they are able to confiscate my phone and get a warrant to dig through its contents, no one will ever know it doubles as a scanner (amongst other things).
