Nepal - frustration and more frustration.

Hi guys,

I guess this is my first proper post so I wanted to introduce myself a little first as I will only be posting in the world section. I'm born in the UK, living out of Oslo, Norway but currently travelling SE Asia for a while. I've been Urbexing properly (researching and exploring and spending money trying to find places) a matter of weeks though I've been aware of it and have explored things I've stumbled upon for years.

I decided I wanted to share a bit about SE Asia as there doesn't seem to be a whole lot (that I've found at least) save for spots that are almost tourist attractions and wanted to show there are things to be found here.

Nepal was a tale of frustration - not least because I'd heard about and seen pictures of the Himal Cement Factory just south of Kathmandu and the place looked insane. It had been abandoned in 2002 but unfortunately after spending $20 dollars searching for it I found that it had began to be pulled down just weeks ago. Which made for a solemn trip back to the capital.

I'd also heard about two abandoned monasteries and a royal building somewhere in Kathmandu but no matter how many people I spoke to - and there were scores of them - nobody seemed to know.

I did manage to find two'semi-abandoned' sites. Sites that were in the process of being relocated due to the 2015 earthquake. One in Pokhara and One in Kathmandu. It meant that people were about but the places had strangely descended into ruin.

The one in Kathmandu was frequented by students and will only allow tourists into the front gardens not into the buildings itself. The front courtyard was overgrown and featured abandoned cars, shrines and the building itself had fallen into disrepair.

The Pokhara site was on the edge of the lake again falling into disrepair but still frequented by workers.

Attached are the images I apologise for the quality. I had to get them down to 45kb each - if anyone has any tips for resizing I'm all ears.

Welcome to UER.
We like pics and stories

Sounds like fun and games...
Google Earth no help?
On Android I use Reduce Photo Size.
Probably better apps but it works ok.

Just when I thought I was out... they pulled me back in.

Nice one Blackhawk - I will have a look now. I hadn't considered using Google Earth either but it's something for the future so thank you

Fun and games puts it mildly - I was honestly gutted coming back from the ruins of the cement factory. I'm in the Philippines right now and had a really good day yesterday so I will try and get a few shots and story from that out today.

Be careful, murder is basically legal in the Philippines.

If I were to go down there strictly for exploring, Malaysia would be my top choice, followed probably by Vietnam. All the others

Yeah you're not wrong man. This spot I found was in a backpacker hotspot. I didn't go anywhere I shouldn't have been in Manila. Common sense has to prevail however tempting a location is.

All the others

That's weird, I didn't finish my post. I think I was going to say all the others I'd visit four tourist or business reasons, rather than UE reasons. Anyway, East Asia has way more than countries down there and is way safer.
