Uploading photos, creating new locations.

Hello everyone! Looking through the rookie forums, I've learned many new tips and tricks about urban exploration, like photography and film tips, scoping out locations, how to prepare for an exploration, what gear to carry, what to look out for, and more. What I can't figure out is what is the best way, as in highest quality possible,to share photos in the forums? Also, should I reference my region forums for creating locations, or should I use the general forums?

Usually it is best to host your images offsite and hotlink them here. The choice of forum shouldnt give you too much trouble as all the photography forums are clearly named.

Most people around here use Flickr. Other image hosts, like Photobucket or imgur, will work fine as well. I don't recommend using the built-in image uploader, as it will limit each image to a 100kb file size.

I'm not sure I understand what you mean on the second point. Locations are added to the database, not logged in a forum thread. A thread posted on the forums would be for a photography set, and shouldn't include the real name of a place, though it can be placed in either the appropriate regional forum or the general ones.

Generally we don't like sharing locations on this forum unless it's a location that is very publicly known already. This is just to discourage owners of the site from closing it, people from going there to do drugs or tag it, and some other things.

The site members and the site's owner Avatar-X have differing views on this, so as it's not against the rules technically, it is frowned upon. It is OK to share locations with someone through private message if you trust them.

Here's a link to some things to look for in someone before you give away a location (really good stuff, especially Astro's post): http://www.uer.ca/...=1&threadid=126125

If you have any questions feel free to PM me!

The gallery tool (image uploader) here works great mobile users seem to have problems turning their photos right side up however. As noted the highest possible image quality will come from linking to your photo blog however.

If you want to post your visit to some location by all means do so, don't let any of the local bullies and professional forum users tell you its frowned upon etc. Let them frown all they want. That's why this forum is here to share. Just please avoid using real location names that search bots and Googlers will find, best to put these in the appropriate Regional section unless its so fabulous that people from all over will enjoy it then you can show it in the General Forum. If it wont let you make the thread private in the Regional Forum send me or any moderator a note you will still be able to see it. No entry details please.

Thank you all so much! I've decided to use Flickr for uploading photos, and most of the locations I'm going to upload have already been discovered by other explorers on this website. I've been to a select few that aren't on here, and if I do decide to upload any of my photos of them to the regional forums I'll be sure to keep the place anonymous and not give entry details since it's publicly viewable. Well, either way, I'll make sure to keep the places I visit anonymous on the forums.

Perfect! Welcome to UER

Sharing this hobby with others on UER has made it immensely more enjoyable (not that it wasn't already) and I've already made some awesome connections in the few months I've been here. I look forward to seeing your work. Best of luck!
