I always have at least two people with me. You never know when you're gonna need to be carried out with a broken leg or some other injury. Exploring alone is sketch imo

I've explored a few times alone up until one time when I was in an abandoned building and I heard someone in the room next to the one I was in. Not only was my phone about to die at the time but I hadn't told anyone where I was going. I went back with a friend later and in that same room we found what looked like an abandoned squatter set up and drug residue everywhere. God only knows what could have happened if I had stayed. I recommend never going alone but if you absolutely must, make sure you have a proper flashlight, a fully charged phone and you've told at least one person where you are going.

You do something foolish enough that you need to be carried out...
it maybe in a body bag.

I've never gone alone, I usually go with one or two other friends just to be on the safe side. You never know what you might encounter and for safety purposes it's just better to have someone with you.

Loosely related, but I feel I have an easier time coping in dark creepier areas that most people because I hate scary movies and never watch them Can anyone else relate?

Yes! Same here!

I have explored alone and in groups as large as 4. I prefer a pair though. As others have mentioned having someone trustworthy and solid as an extra set of eyes is never a bad thing. But there is something magical about going alone too!

safety aside, it's just nice to have someone around to experience the exploration with and talk to.

It's weird. I can barely walk down the hall at night without being creeped out, but if I'm with just one person in an abandonment, there's no fear at all. I agree with stealthwraith, I think a pair is best. A larger group is just more noise and more people to annoy with my two-week exposures.

It is usually myself and the prettier half (I'm clearly the better half ). We also have the (big)little brother come along too.

Most of my friends are straight knuckleheads and I worry about them being keen on the preservation factor like me, Sonja, and little bro are. We are of the mindset that we don't vandalize or tear stuff up. It also gives us the ability and the time to bounce around taking various photos or explore certain things at our own pace. We also work well together and value each other's "gut" when we start feeling any trepidation.

I don't think it'd go so well if I was exploring with some people and looked over to find them being asshats. Just sayin.

I always go with 1 other person, sometimes 2. Mostly because if Murphy's Law hits, always nice to have the whole 'safety in numbers thing going for you, imho anyway. It's pretty much my SO and a buddy of ours, we keep the circle small so we don't attract attention, we k ow each of us will respect the location and if anything happens, there's a person to watch the other's back.

I'd go with a group if I ever had the chance, but none of my friends are interested in exploring abandoned buildings. I have a few friends I've explored with before, but they don't live in the same city as I do, and none of us own cars.

Fortunately, I have a few leads to follow up on in regards to fellow students at my university who enjoy rooftopping and urban exploring that I'll follow up on once the fall semester starts, but odds are I'll have to continue exploring alone, as I usually do.

Actually did break my leg on an explore. Wasnt being foolish, walking a ledge of a half demoed building, using the remaining wall for handholds, a brick came loose, fell about 6-7 ft. Shit happens, life goes on

Its not all a bed of roses out there. If never even tried anything that is only semi challenging there would be no reason for this site.

That's being foolish.
Life doesn't go on for everyone... consider it a lesson.
Next time it could the whole wall not just a brick.
That was high enough to kill you either way.
THINK before you DO.

Doesn't matter if you're alone or with a group except in a group your actions could also determine their fate.

Falls are the #1 killers and* maimers of explorers here.

*Falls are the leading cause of explorer deaths.
On this site trains, illness, and suicide outrank falls for cause of deaths.
Many have been seriously injured in falls.
If this injury of yours is to have future consequences remains to be seen.
Many times they do.

I try to avoid exploring alone--usually I'll be exploring with one or two others, just in case. If something happens to one of us, there's someone else that can rescue/call for help, which is comforting. Also, two sets of eyes are always better than one, keeping an eye out for hazards and authorities, and to get a second opinion on sounds that are heard. I am occasionally the paranoid one, so it's nice to know I'm not the only one that heard a door creak or a footstep.

If no one is free though, I don't have many qualms about doing stuff alone.

i normally go it alone. its half none of my friends are in to it and then i like the simplicity of going it alone. But it can get scary sometimes though so occasionally do wish i had a partner.

It's usually best to go with one or two people. It's safer without having a crowd. Most of the time going alone is only a problem because people are scared. I go alone on my trips because I don't know anyone who'll go with me, and it's prevented me from going anywhere exciting. lol

I've gone with a group from here before but I actually have no problem going alone. I explore during the day majority of the time and its a way for me to photograph and relax. If I have people with me, especially not experienced, I have to worry about their safety. If its a spot that I frequent and I know there aren't any air/hellhole/health concerns I will bring my dog.
