Learning how to shoot and scan film has been quite a learning process, but I think I'm getting there. Scanning and Post Process work on the film has especially been a learning curve, but I'm happy with how my scans are turning out now. I've got a huge amount of negatives to scan from quite a few other places, hopefully I'll get more stuff up soon.

A few shots from the best school around.

These were taken with a Diana Camera, Fujifilm 400 ISO.

And these were taken with a Minolta Hi-Matic 7S (a 'real' camera, opposed to the 'toy' Diana camera ), on cheap Kodak Gold 400 ISO film from the drug store. These shots are from the first roll I got out of it where I was mostly happy with what I got (I think the third roll of film I put through it total). I goofed on a few things, mostly distance, and what will be in frame while looking through the rangefinder, I'm happy with my exposure times though.

and in the midst of all the ooh's and ahh's over photography skillz.....I said (out loud) OHHHHHHHHHHHH SCIENCE YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!

1. binocular scope, dissecting scope, test tubes and an Erlenmeyer flask. Much fun could be had if you added some nice scummy pond water.

11. holy bat crap - they left Ammonium Nitrate?? What the F? hope you didn't take any. Its dangerous in its pure form. Mostly used in rural areas as a soil fertilizer, but its seriously explosive if mixed with certain things and lets just say the local meth heads would want it. badly. it drives a reaction like a 2 ton bus. Anyway, that pretty blue stuff I'd bet was Biuret's reagent, or it could have been Benedict's solution. Every high school everywhere has it to test for the presence of proteins (Biurets) or reducing sugars (Benedicts). Its actually pretty fun stuff.

Thanks for letting me remember my first days as a TA (the biuret's reagent) in a crumbling building at GT - the old textiles engineering lab - complete with asbestos raining down on the benches. Yeah, our dumb asses wiped it down each lab.

Great pictures always tell a great story.

Cool stuff, Sheavy. I didn't realize these were film shots when I saw them going up on Flickr. I'm impressed.

Kabbalah is an undramatic tradition that requires great patience and stability. One of the reasons for this tempo is that everyone has to mature his potential gradually and thoroughly at his natural pace. In this way his life's work unfolds at the right moment in his own and the cosmos's time.

Thanks! I didn't like the grain at first, but I've come around to like how it looks.

Thanks you guys, I've really got the film bug right now, I'm itching to get back to a lot of places I've been and re-shoot with film.

Yeah, I really love the look of film, though I doubt I'll ever stop using digital. Man i'd be almost afraid to take that thing anywhere, but it sure would be nice to use.

Thanks! You're welcome for the trip down memory lane . You would get quite a kick from exploring this place I imagine, Ammonium Nitrate is hardly the only thing left here that shouldn't have been.

Glad this place hasn't been completely trashed. I haven't been able to do any exploring while in birmingham due to family issues.

Image #5 reminds me of the movie No County for Old Men where the sheriff looks at himself in the tv. Great movie and great photos.

I love the grain! And the lecture hall is so pristine! Did you apply the grain affect before or after you took the photos? If you don't mind, I would love to know your method so I can replicate it.
